Durham’s Next Boss

I suspect it'll be killeen but sadly, and this isn't meant as a criticism on him, i think it'll be him because it'll be cheaper and less effort for north rather than because he's the best candidate.

I hope it’s someone else, simply because I get the impression Killer does a good job with the bowlers and you wouldn’t want to lose that positive in the long run.

With what and why?

This from someone who watches Leicestershre home and away. I know whose opinion I'll stick by. "Nico is a true club legend who is Leicesteshire through and through and a born winner who never gives up.Since being at Leicesteshire as coach when he came in 2018 he has had to work with a very limited budget therefore taking risks signing mediocre players and trying to get the best out of them with varied results. He should never be judged on results at Leicesteshire or any lack of success in his time as head coach at the club.He installs belief and confidence into the team and the players and I hope he's at the club for many years to come yet as I don't believe anyone would do better with the club's resources and he will eventually deliver success to the club"

Should never be judged by results haha

Much a a I'd love a Divo or Benks appointment, the reality is we have to set out sights much lower. We're currently a basket case of a club, a laughing stock with North as a Director of cricket. Could do a lot worse than Nixon, to dismiss someone purely because of his club's position is somewhat superficial. The fact that he's regarded highly by Leicester supoorters,as above, should not be dismissed. Strikes me as an enthusiastic, highly experienced cricket. Enthusiastic and a good motivater. Compare his persona to that of Franklin.

"Great coach and bloke. Leicestershire are very lucky to have him"..... "He has done a great job on the limited budget the club has and he is well respected in the game". - Seems Leicestershre fans speak very highly of him & appreciate the work he is doing. Always good attributes to have from your members.

I think some people seem to think Durham are still one of the top dogs in the game...yet offer no names. We aren't even slightly close to mediocrity thanks to Franklin & North despite having international players to select from on a fairly regular basis across all competitions this year especially. What's happened at Durham this year has been an absolute disgrace. It will take time to rebuild and install confidence into a fractured club at the moment, also rebuilding relationships with members is a key thing something these two have dismantled.

Our squad is incredibly weak in the bowling department mind and that's where our problems have been this year, ion the few occasions we've batted well enough to deserve a win, which had been rare but we've never looked strong enough to bowl teams out.

Potts and carse seem destined for internationals almost exclusively, woody obliviously likewise. That leaves us with rushy Mr reliable, Raine can do a job and coughlin who can rarely get through a game. The rest are promising youngsters but not ready to be depended on

We should be doing better though. Rushworth and Raine are good bowlers, I've said before Raine is up there for me as player of the year and captain material. Think questions need to be asked of Killeen. Someone on here made a comparison with Jack Campbell and how well he's done since leaving Durham for example. He's been let off lightly this season has Killeen in my opinion. You also then have to question the recruitment, I have absolutely no faith in Marcus North in that area, likewise the outgoing Franklin, both of whom have served no positive purpose to the club. You look at the lack of game time for all rounders Bushnell & Doneathy (the latter for the one day cup, the constant messing around with Bushnell is a disgrace), both of whom can bowl and bowl well. It's all just very messy hence it needs a clear out. For example this game I'm at a loss as to why Bushnell has been dropped.

There's a young lad called Campbell with 3-38 off 19overs playing for Hants 2nds today.

So the only credential is that this person watches a team play regularly…

I’ve watched practically every ball bowled in a Durham game this year, yet I wouldn’t ever claim to be a recruiting expert.

The bloke has been as much of a failure as the bloke we just got rid of. Oh and being ‘nice’ wins you the square route of f*ckall.

“A born winner” who currently has his side rock bottom of the Championship.

But he develops talent just none play for England

We’re absolutely not like. Our standing within county cricket is still massive. Athers and Nasser were waxing lyrical about us the other day, add to that George Dobell last week.

We’ve got 5 players in the current international squads and 4 in the current U19 squads.

We’ve produced more cricketers for England than any other county except Yorkshire since 2005 and have won more County Championships in the last 15 years than some counties have won in their entire existence of over a hundred years. Our ground is also one of the best on the circuit.

It’s time people stopped talking the club down so much. The way some folk go on you’d think we were ready to wind the entire club up.

We’ve had a tough season on the field, but there have been a number of factors that have significantly contributed to that. It annoys me how much people seem to enjoy rewriting history on here solely to service their own backwards agenda.

BUT, above everything else, we are a MASSIVE draw within county cricket for anyone looking for a HC job.

You're watching a team throughout the season and you're claiming you can't make an informed call on the merits of the players and the coach?

We'have, and continue to have,an outstanding academy with currently 4 players in the U19 England side.Little point in that if they're blocked from progressing to the 1st team. We won the county championship in 2013 with a predominantly academy produced side and in our short history have produced almost an entire team of England cricketers. Past tense.
Last time we advertised for a HC we had such a dearth of applicants we had to appoint someone with no coaching experience.
The contact between past achievements and the present underachieving is stark.
I didn’t say that, have another read.
I have. Semantics.
