I'm the same, I don't like VAR. I liked the idea in principle but have hated it since. To be fair the assistant flagged so it wouldn't have counted anyway haha.

Eh? What happened there then? I thought they weren't meant to flag until ball was in the net? So why was VAR even used in this case? Or was it just an after the event type thing?

I think we are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea with the standard of refereeing which doesn’t help. FWIW your result worked out well with me as I put £40 win on Liverpool at half time returned £92. I thought that’s my bet buggered until I saw the score well after the end

They aren't meant to unless they are sure, so he must have felt sure, but it could have been overturned by VAR and allowed to stand. He couldn't have been sure like, it was so tight.
Every goal is checked by VAR now as a matter of course.

Edit - To be fair I think he did only flag once it went in.

Bindippers is a nationally used insult. I agree that in the NE we shouldn’t be using poverty based insults to take the p*** out of Liverpool but TBF there’s a world of difference between that and mocking the Hillsborough tragedy. I can’t recall seeing our fans do that and would as disgusted with them as I am with the above Twitter abuse if any did.
Aye mate. My comments were on the lad taking the mickey out of scousers on benefits, not the Hillsborough comment.Utter scum who should be kicked arl ower , anybody commenting like that about fellow football fans dying.

If he did flag (while in play) then the goal couldn't be overturned surely? Fair enough if the flag went up when the ball was in the net.

I needed you to go 2-0 up and chuck it away :(

I think it can be overturned by VAR yeah. In fact it happened for us with Shelvey a couple of years back. Flag went up, everyone but Shelvey stopped playing, he put it in the net and the goal was allowed.

I think if we had scored the second we would have went on to win. They huffed and puffed a bit last night, and only sprang to life really once they equalised.

Mental that. Yeah I remember now. Once that flag goes up play needs to be stopped, unless players are now told to ignore any flag- I suppose players should be doing that anyway.

It's all a bit daft now, we may as well not have assistants for offside and just check when the ball is put in. Maybe that's the future. Think they're using automated offsides at the World Cup this year so thats the direction it's heading in. I always thought the clear daylight rule was just about the most effective and clear way of deciding offsides.

They will be unbearable if they start turning these big wins in to actual points.

Perhaps. But why are they constantly on here? Why is every other article on the mag about us? Why do they expend so much energy defending the owners on social media. Yesterday it was the video of the child being beaten, tomorrow it could be something else. This is what they have bought into. It is not going to be all smiles and happiness.

Hope you enjoyed your game there marrow

I did pal. Was a cracking game, end to end. Just a pisser at the end. Onto the next.
We heard the goal go in while sitting in the stadium car park, f***ing Brilliant, no doubt Look North will make it into a victory for them, I wonder if they do a lap of honour at their next home game at the shit tip :) :)
Hope so as it’ll mean we’ve won the game
