I and other will get behind him and give him a chance because that's what fans will do.

However I reserve the right to be both disappointed and underwhelmed and no one can convince me to the contrary.

There's a number of reasons and some of them being that how does he fit this lauded model we have? It's night and day comparing him to Alex Neil and Johnson when it comes to coaching.

Secondly he's hardly hit any remotely dizzy heights during his managerial career. He's noted for taking Blackburn to 8th after having a terrible end to last season and for taking Middlesbrough from 22nd to 12th and safety. Suggesting that this is nothing more than a stop gap appointment and part of an incremental plan to simply survive. Meaning that Tony will have to do one before we hopefully go on to challenge for playoffs etc.

Thirdly it's no surprise he is unemployed, like Neil before him, further suggesting we don't have two pennies to rub together to prize a manager of calibre out of a job.

It might come across like I do, but I don't have anything against him but I can't think of a worse appointment, other than your merry go round charlatans a la Pardew, Hughs and Curbishley. Yes the likes of Dyche may be lingering for Prem jobs and perhaps rightly so, but when folk like Chris Hughton are out of work one does wonder wtf we're up to at times.

In addition this lauded model does nothing than boil my piss. Speakman has done nothing in football to suggest he should wield authoritarian power at the football club. The idea that he sits above a manager is palpable, I have no issue in him working alongside and in fact most DOF models have a degree of cooperation and shared responsibility, it's rare to see it utilised the way we do.

We started the season daring to dream, now the wind has been swept from our sails and the ambitions of those above made public meaning that a limp across the finish line will suffice.

^^

And the merry-go-round stops on... Jobs for for the boys. If SD had appointment the mediocre mate of those already at the club, people would have kicked off about it
Yep. Also, i know the transfer window is nearly shut but would Mowbray have challenged Speakman in the transfer market like Neil did? With him being really good mates with Stu Harvey and pally with Speakman?? We'll see in January i suppose. I

Underwhelmed. Would love to be proved wrong. Ha'way Tony. Let's hope we can get some serious signings in the next couple of days. Not huge on the idea of playing a match on transfer deadline day...

Realistic aspirations for the season are top half minimum, pushing towards playoffs. Even in defeats this season, there's been nothing in the opposition that was worthy of fear or that we could8have beaten. The red card and sheff United, the AN mess at Norwich.

I don't want consolidation with this sort of parkinson, grayson esque appointment, who's straight off the managerial merry-go-round , I want us to actually try and think outside of the box and hire a coach as young, exciting, and forward thinking as our squad. Be it Liam manning, or someone from KLDs little black book in France.
This in Spades!^^^
We have narrowly lost two games against the teams who will likely be promoted this year and given the fans more exciting football than we have seen in a dog's age. (Not counting the LC- two kids as subs :):)) Keep to the plan... Keep the momentum... Keep the Faith!

Interview with him here makes him come across as a really good bloke but also reads like something that could be on Memory Lane UK on Facebook

He won't challenge anyone man. He'll be back sitting with his mates, expecting us all to celebrate a mid table season and season - and the worst thing is, some actually will. Then he'll do the same next season. He's been at one big club in his career, celtic, and failed dismally.

There isn't a club in the lower have of the championship that he wouldn't go to. He's not some of of coup, or statement signing, he's a plodder who will see us plodding

He's got a reputation for developing and bringing through young players and having a willingness to carry a squad full of them. How is that not in keeping with the club's much stated core strategy?
I think the real issue for a lot of fans is he’s over 50, and not very sexy😂.
It’s all about the image in some people’s eyes.

So would you not take a mid-table finish then?

Why on earth wouldn’t we celebrate a mid table finish this season? That was what we were getting with the snake - and is beyond what almost all playoff teams manage.
