Football Insider say it's Mowbray.

I and other will get behind him and give him a chance because that's what fans will do.

However I reserve the right to be both disappointed and underwhelmed and no one can convince me to the contrary.

There's a number of reasons and some of them being that how does he fit this lauded model we have? It's night and day comparing him to Alex Neil and Johnson when it comes to coaching.

Secondly he's hardly hit any remotely dizzy heights during his managerial career with zero promotions on his CV. He's noted for taking Blackburn to 8th after having a terrible end to last season and for taking Middlesbrough from 22nd to 12th and safety. Suggesting that this is nothing more than a stop gap appointment and part of an incremental plan to simply survive. Meaning that Tony will have to do one before we hopefully go on to challenge for playoffs etc.

Thirdly it's no surprise he is unemployed, like Neil before him, further suggesting we don't have two pennies to rub together to prize a manager of calibre out of a job.

It might come across like I do, but I don't have anything against him but I can't think of a worse appointment, other than your merry go round charlatans a la Pardew, Hughs and Curbishley. Yes the likes of Dyche may be lingering for Prem jobs and perhaps rightly so, but when folk like Chris Hughton are out of work one does wonder wtf we're up to at times.

In addition this lauded model does nothing than boil my piss. Speakman has done nothing in football to suggest he should wield authoritarian power at the football club. The idea that he sits above a manager is palpable, I have no issue in him working alongside and in fact most DOF models have a degree of cooperation and shared responsibility, it's rare to see it utilised the way we do.

We started the season daring to dream, now the wind has been swept from our sails and the ambitions of those above made public meaning that a limp across the finish line will suffice.

That other poster makes some valid complaints, but it is not balanced - it makes it sound like TM was awful for us, he really wasn't overall. I definitely think it was the right time for a change and a new direction but he did do a lot of good for us. THere are negatives, of course, which grate after 5 or so seasons. Only one season would I say our football was boring. When he decided to try and boss possession for possessions sake. Having the ball but going nowhere with it. Fortunately, he ditched that style the following season and the football was much better for it.

Managerial stints have a natural lifespan. People like Ferguson and Wenger are huge outliers. Probably a relief to both sides. At least, living only 30 or 40 miles away, he can get back to his wife and family (to whom he's apparently devoted) most nights.

Ask me a straight question

I mean this coming from someone going on about a pint we had but then last night said you couldnt really remember it
I told you when it was. Stop trying to derail another thread. Pm if there's an issue, people aren't interested in this.

Is it right that he, at least last season, liked his side to press high and aggressively? Did you do it effectively?

Apologies, I know the question has got nothing to do with the post I’m quoting.
Yes he likes the aggressive high press. We did it very well in the first half of the season. Was up in 2nd by January. Then injuries hit (Diaz etc), Bournemouth tried to poach Rothwell who downed tools when we wouldn't let him go. TM really should have strengthened in January. Had the funds to do so but decided to go with what we had. He puts a lot of faith in youth but on that occasion we needed some experienced bodies to help push us over the line.

Yeah we did, to the best team in the division by far. Didn't help that Van Hecke karate kicked a player and got sent off in the first half. Just one of those results that all teams get from time to time.

Results against Fulham last year should be disregarded. I mean, they did they same to Luton at the end of the season, and they were in the playoffs.

I'm slowly coming around to it. more so because it's clearly happening so we've little choice but to just get behind him

his record is pretty decent actually for what we're looking to achieve. at least over the next few years if we're being realistic

That's my exact gripe mate about not looking about. Speakman saying we will go through a process.
Desperate for a quick appointment due to the two clowns who couldn’t manage an under 13s team is the case imo.

My gripe is there wasn’t a safe pair of hands to step in when Johnson was sacked and we are in the exact same position now as the arrogance of Speakman hasn’t reflected on that situation which nearly cost us promotion. Nearly every club in the country except Safc will likely have stand in option available from within - we realised we didn’t after Johnson and it’s criminal that contingency situation hasn’t been rectified.

That said I think Mowbray is a decent appointment baring in mind our goal for this season is probably to hit mid table.
