Football Insider say it's Mowbray.

Just in from work and not going to read through the whole thread. Mowbray will be judged on results like any other manager. If our good run of form continues he'll be the one everyone wanted all along. If not then I think we all know how that goes. No point in judging him before a balls even been kicked as we saw with AN.

Been a manager for 18 years and only managed to gain promotion twice ( one of which was 15 years) after a rookie manager in Keane handed him his arse in his first season as manager with a 5 game headstart. Has achieved less than steve Bruce and most would shudder at the thought of him

I and other will get behind him and give him a chance because that's what fans will do.

However I reserve the right to be both disappointed and underwhelmed and no one can convince me to the contrary.

There's a number of reasons and some of them being that how does he fit this lauded model we have? It's night and day comparing him to Alex Neil and Johnson when it comes to coaching.

Secondly he's hardly hit any remotely dizzy heights during his managerial career with zero promotions on his CV. He's noted for taking Blackburn to 8th after having a terrible end to last season and for taking Middlesbrough from 22nd to 12th and safety. Suggesting that this is nothing more than a stop gap appointment and part of an incremental plan to simply survive. Meaning that Tony will have to do one before we hopefully go on to challenge for playoffs etc.

Thirdly it's no surprise he is unemployed, like Neil before him, further suggesting we don't have two pennies to rub together to prize a manager of calibre out of a job.

It might come across like I do, but I don't have anything against him but I can't think of a worse appointment, other than your merry go round charlatans a la Pardew, Hughs and Curbishley. Yes the likes of Dyche may be lingering for Prem jobs and perhaps rightly so, but when folk like Chris Hughton are out of work one does wonder wtf we're up to at times.

In addition this lauded model does nothing than boil my piss. Speakman has done nothing in football to suggest he should wield authoritarian power at the football club. The idea that he sits above a manager is palpable, I have no issue in him working alongside and in fact most DOF models have a degree of cooperation and shared responsibility, it's rare to see it utilised the way we do.

We started the season daring to dream, now the wind has been swept from our sails and the ambitions of those above made public meaning that a limp across the finish line will suffice.

Chris Hughton currently works for Ghana Football Association as a technical adviser.

Only had 1 job granted. Mowbray hasn't done anything of note. Yes, i know he finished 8th, but why didn't Blackburn fans want the club to offer him a new deal at the end of the season? They were happy to see him gone. No bitterness, they just wanted someone else. If you finish 8th you would have thought there would have been a clamour for him to stay🤷‍♂️
It was the manner of how we finished 8th. From 2nd in January to only winning 6 games in the second half of the season. It was a terrible run. Post-xmas form is not a strong point with Mowbray. Most of us felt that it was time for a new direction. We have gone the DOF route this season, just like you guys. Most fans thank TM for what he did - he was much better than all the other managers we have had since relegation from the PL, put it that way.

This ‘ambition’ that many are talking about ? Is that promotion to the PL this season ?
If Mowbray stabilises us as a top half championship side this season is that lacking ambition ?
You can change your ambitions though mate. Before the season started ,yes, mid table ,over the moon. But after I have seen how well we have competed, why not go for it? Fortune favours the brave!

Underwhelmed to say the least. It’s like Simon Grayson or Parkinson all over again, when everyone said they will be a solid appointment to steady the ship. Considering we were already looking good for a possible play off place push I’m not sure what and why the ship needs steadying.

I’m somewhat more sanguine about it than I was on Saturday. I don’t think it’s the worst appointment in the world
I’m partly in line with this, but also mixed with I really don’t care very much any more. You would think under TM, we probably shouldn’t get relegated this season.

Three days ago though, I thought we were genuinely going to challenge for promotion. It’s a canny come down.

I don’t know of any manager who can guarantee promotion. I’m not enthralled by TM but I’ll give him my support if he’s appointed assuming he demonstrates he has ‘ambition’ for us

Who would you have gone for then? (That would have come)

Manning, without doubt. His style would 100% fit our way of playing.

Mowbray will be a steady Eddie no doubt. His record shows that. I’d of liked to see a bit more ambition (which would need money that we mustn’t have)

Opening few games show this side is capable of been in the promotion mix, a coach/manager that could of continued that would of kept the good feeling through out the club.

As mentioned I’ll get behind Mowbray, but already fans are massively divided which is a real shame cos everything for once on the pitch seemed to have a very good connection with the support.

Ambition can be about being forward facing and not just going for a managerial merrygoround candidate who is, at best, seen as an available safe pair of hands.

To me being a football supporter is about wanting a bit of daring, excitement and optimism.

Where do you want to go this season - genuine question?
I’m quite happy for us to have a mid-table finish, with signs of improvement going forward, and I think Mowbray can deliver this.
Think our realistic aims for this season depend on if we can keep Stewart fit. If that happens there's no reason why we can't finish mid-table but if he sustains any sort of injury which keeps him out for a decent length of time I think we'll struggle as I don't see a lot of goals in the rest of the squad. And as for Mowbray it just screams of a short-term fix which is exactly what the club are allegedly looking to steer clear of.
