Football Insider say it's Mowbray.

The amount of disrespect to a dignified experienced manager who has been doing a good job in Championship for years on here is poor.

There hasn’t been a great deal of dignity shown by Mowbray towards SAFC in the past mind.

I think this appointment is poor. Lots of others do for football reasons too (some will get nastily personal which is obviously unreasonable). We’re being sold a vision about modernity, youth, development and long termism. Mowbray has quite a dour persona, has not spoken kindly of the club in the past, has a pretty mediocre record and has not been liked as a manager by most clubs he’s been at (despite him being loved as a player at Boro and Celtic).

Does the appointment feel brave and optimistic? Does it feel ambitious? Does is it feel fresh and well researched? Does it feel as though it’s imaginative? Does it seem well researched and data driven? To me, the answer is no to all of the above and that’s a bit of a let down give what the supposed vision of the club is. Mowbray is local, available, and friends with Harvey. It feels every bit like an appointment the old regime would have made.

It feels very flat to me

Alternatively the amount of clapping seals is unbelievable.

It's grayson, let's support him
It's parkinson, let's support him
It's Mowbray, let's support him

No club that's appointing managers like these deserve any form of success

Didn't we support Alex Neil? Who has an extremely similar record in this league but we were all wanking him off as the saviour of Sunderland.

I've nothing against Mowbray from a football perspective at all but I think it's a terrible appointment as he has slagged the club off at every opportunity for the last 20 years
Completely agree. Some people just shouldn't be near a club given their previous outbursts and I feel Mobray and us is one of those situations. Would love to be proven wrong but can't see it ending well at all.

This dinosaur crack is lifting mind.

At what age do you become a dinosaur like?

Ranieri won the prem at 65
Sarri - 63
Mourinho - 59
Klopp - 55
Hasenhuttl - 55
Conte - 53
Ten Haag - 52

Can't imagine many people would be calling these lot dinosaurs if we appointed them.
Phil Parkinson was 50-51 when he got our job and people were calling him a dinosaur.

I just called him shite if anything regardless of his age.

I cringe at this place - I really do! You would think with all the armchair managers there is on here who analyse every little fart a player makes (a nod to Scottish comedian Rhona Cameron there for those who watch I'm A Celebrity..Get Me Out of Here") you would think most would have a better assessment of Tony Mowbray than simply "He's not glamorous, he's just a very naughty boy!" and "He's a dinosaur". For the love of God people he probably has managed more games in the Championship than most if not all the other candidates put together. He probaby knows what is required to win a game in the Championship than most if not all of the other candidates put togher. He is more familiar with it than most if not all of the other candidates put together. I cannot think of a more experienced Championship manager who is available. Calm down dear, everything is going to be OK.

Exactly. It never ends well, a few bad results and it all comes out. He'll have a similar ending to Bruce

You're right. I'm just surmising if I'm being honest. Has the club got the money to pay a top manager, is the question? I think the average Championship manager's salary was about £900k a year and the highest at £3.5m in 2020 (Source: Daily Mail article)

We’ve appointed (or are about to appoint) a bloke who achieved 8th place in the Championship last season. I’d guess he will be on a reasonable salary and competitive enough to attract him as an experienced manager at this level. If we went for Manning or Barry they would almost certainly be on less than Mowbray. He wouldn’t have been my choice but his track record indicates we should be able to comfortably retain our championship status this season and make improvements on the pitch. Compared with recent years that would be a massive improvement.

Why because of one comment 15 years ago
