18/19 Alex Neil and PNE finished 14th and Tony Mowbray with Blackburn finished 15th
19/20 Alex Neil and PNE finished 9th and Tony Mowbray with Blackburn finished 11th
20/21 - Mowbray 8th Alex neil in league one.

Theyre very very similar finishes. Nothing on that lists shows Alex neil to have had better finishes does it.

and the one difference to that appointment is that there was a long term plan. Neil made it boring and relied more on experienced pros to get us up and grind out results. He was never going to play like that this season because there was a long term plan. There's a reason Dan Neil has started every game he's been available for and came straight back into the team after a red card despite being sat on the bench permanently under AN last year. The exact same thing happened with Lee Johnson. Embleton out on loan, Neil playing pizza games, Stewart sat on the bench and Max Power, Scowen and Leadbitter in midfield with Wyke up front with a long term plan of playing attacking football the season after and using Neil, Embleton, Stewart etc as your main players.

What's the long term plan with this appointment?
Only long term plan Neil had seems to have been to fuck off as soon as he could

Thing is though, it's NOT a generalisation.
It's there to see on this thread alone , as well as the others.
It's so ironic , people on here never stop going on about Newcastle fans being deluded (big clerb etc), yet it's exactly the same on here.
When the rumours about AN first appeared, the general consensus was that there was no chance that he would leave you for Stoke.

Quite funny really - whenever supporters of other clubs mention the arrogance and attitude of your support, there's no acceptance that perhaps these people could actually have a point.

What makes Sunderland so much better than Hibs, Celtic, West Brom, Boro, Coventry and Blackburn?
Did you look at the poll? The MK Dons Manager is leading it by some way.

It is absolutely a genralisation. Point to where I, for example have ever said anything of the sort. I've praised the likes of Boro as having far better recent history than ourselves.

Where in this thread are people saying we a bigger ckub than the likes of Celtic or West Brom? Celtic are one of the biggest clubs in the world with regards to trophies won and support.

This board is getting beyond ridiculous. The amount of pathetic whinge bags is unbelievable.
This board becoming overrun with a bunch of sopping wet fannies. 50 years ago the blokes of this city were building ships and digging miles underground for coal, now their sons and grandsons are on here crying like bairns because we’ve appointed Tony Mowbray as manager.

Rovers fan in peace

Just came to see what you all thought of the Mowbray appointment and share my experience of five years watching his teams.

Firstly he has a reputation as an attack minded coach who play free flowing football the “right way”. This is nonsense. It was the most boring football I can remember.

Secondly he will play players in random positions such as the Bradley Johnson false nine experiment , the sam Gallagher at right back and many other strange choices.

He is a players man. Tries to keep everyone happy dishing minutes and contracts out like toffee to the detriment of the team. He will talk about journeys and slow builds to buy him time to top his pension fund up.

He will start all this waffle about integrity and being honest and humble and talk to you decent hard working class folk . It’s all an act.

And finally don’t forget the Xmas death spiral and early cup exits where you won’t win a game after Xmas and you won’t make it to round three of any cup regardless of opposition. He openly admitted he doesn’t work on set pieces and never checks the league table as long as he is developing honest lads with good personality, this also means you get substitutions that aren’t based on what’s happening on the game but who hasn’t had minutes . He didn’t sign a player for us we needed because he wore ripped jeans.

When it inevitably goes tits up he will say he’d rather be with his wife and kids . Not after being sacked whilst still in charge.

The man is clueless and as the weeks go on the sound bites go from heart warming to cringe to seriously get him away from my club.

I genuinely wish you all well for the season. Always liked Sunderland as a club and fanbase and you don’t deserve this appointment.

Get ready to start scratching your heads

I work with a couple of Rovers fans and they are not as negative as that. That said, neither want him back and they have never described his style of football as attacking or even interesting.

They have been positive about him bringing on youngsters, but they have at times been scathing about his ability to change matches or go on runs where the team looks poorly set up.

You claimed Neil hadn't out performed him when he clearly has

17/18 Alex Neil finished 7th in Championship while Mowbray was in League 1

18/19 Alex Neil and PNE finished 14th and Tony Mowbray with Blackburn finished 15th
19/20 Alex Neil and PNE finished 9th and Tony Mowbray with Blackburn finished 11th
The idiots aren’t interested in facts , they just need a reason to shit their pants.

And last season Mowbray finished 8th in the champ while Neil was in league one.

I'm not claiming Mowbray is a better manager and I would rather have Alex neil myself. But there isn't a vast different in what they've achieved in the last 4 or 5 years. It's 1 or 2 places either way, they're very very similar records. Last season Mowbray finished in a higher position than Neil has for 4 years.

For a forum that has a history of dismissing “itk” posters out of hand, we do seem to be pinning a lot on this one random self proclaimed Blackburn fan’s opinion.
I think it's fairly relevant given he suffered the fool.
Can I ask you why he is the best choice available and how he fits in with a data driven approach etc??
Why can't we take a manager from another club like Stoke just have?
Is it because our owners don't want to spend any money and don't have ambition?
We have seen already that we have the makings of a good team this season, with a bit of shrewd investment and a decent manager we could have a great season.
Sadly it's going to be a mediocre/poor season now and the likes of Stewart will be away
