Fuck it, will get behind him and give him a chance. He is better than the reputation he has been given on here. I thought Alex Neil was a pretty dull appointment too.

Also a manager is really only worth the weight of their squad, and we have some cracking players.

he took over coventry in league one and were still there when he left
Exactly. He is a steady-away appointment which is the season we need this time around but, aside from finishing omin the top 6 twice over 15 years ago, he has never managed it since.
If being a lower- mid table club for the next few seasons is our ambition, he's perfect.

Players who have been tipped to move to the premier league. You could argue he deserves credit for the way he’s built them up yeah. But as the dust of last season settled, and two relatively poor sides in Luton and Huddersfield finished top 6, I think overall it was a big anticlimax, especially as they hit 2nd briefly in February. I recall similar poor runs at WBA in 2007 which we benefitted from and at Boro on 2 occasions. His streaks aren’t as pronounced as LJ’s but there are similarities, Blackburn won’t finish top 8 no but Van Hecke, Lenihan, Nyambe have all departed and Brereton-Diaz likely too.
I agree with some of that. But the need on here to downplay everything to do with him is weird.

as previously stated finished 8th was down to diaz, they only 5 of last 20 games, in that period Diaz didnt play in 10

what would we do without stewart for that many games? most sides struggle without their best players. now if he played in all 20, you could have made a point about it

All you do is snipe on here
No.
No sniping whatsoever.
You lot are that much into this massive club nonsense that you actually believe you should have the pick of managers for your club.

You've just scraped promotion from the third division , yet the bulk of you seem to think that a manager with a decent record and plenty experience is just not good enough, also resorting to personal insults and accusations about him.

Just who would be deemed suitable?
Not Bruce, Parkinson, Dicannio, Johnson obviously

exactly. we're supposed to be the only ones who were care about 'Sunderland', the manager and players come and go. We have to back whoever is there at the time.

That’s pretty much the one thing you can guarantee: supporters will support and give the new manager a chance.

What about the 15th and 11th the 2 seasons before? He’s a solid championship manager which let’s be honest is what we should be aiming for next couple of years. Also it’s no surprise a team drops off when their best player is injured, fairly standard. I know a fair few Blackburn lads and they all to a man rated him highly and were disappointed he left.
Hahhahahaa they were not disappointed

That, in a nutshell, is my problem. We are appointing someone who everyone expects is only for a year and that we'll be looking to upgrade on him in a year or so. That is not long term planning. Why not appoint someone who you hope can build for the next 5 years? He is so short termist and that is not we were led to believe was the model.
I don’t think we can expect someone to build for 5 years. If the club moves forward and makes the right sort of appointment, we won’t keep a head coach in the same way as we wouldn’t keep a high performing player. Add in the very particular challenge we have short term of dealing with the end of the window - and the most important aspect above all, of staying up this season - it’s fair to think of this as a very specific situation. If this was next summer - or even any summer window tbf - I’d agree that it’s short termist. Right now it’s a fairly safe bet to help us through a particular challenge.

You watch then so fair enough.
However, Mowbray got you your highest league position last season since you dropped out of the PL having spent next to nowt.
Doesn’t sound half as bad as you’re describing.
It really wasnt as bad as he is describing. We basically improved every season under Mowbray just not as much as we would have liked. After 5 years, it gets a bit stale, so most fans wanted a change, including myself. He did a solid job overall though.
