SMB Tennis thread

Not really a surprise but looks like its confirmed Novak wont be playing the US, I doubt he would have won it anyway based on his previous record in America.

Took 7/1 on Nadal a few weeks ago which looked a ridiculous price at the time and looks even better now, basically backing him to stay fit at 7/1 as if he does then nobody else will beat him.

Djokovic isn’t allowed to play at the US Open. You can still get 2/1 on Medvedev which is a brilliant price in my opinion.

Not in super great form, Kyrgios potential 4th round, Nadal in the weakened half of the draw.
Murray getting a horrible 1st round, speaking of which Radacanu Ouch, could both easily get beat.

True but I think he’ll play his way into form during the first week.

I don’t think Nadals knees will hold up over 2 weeks.

I think 2/1 on Medvedev is short like, not been playing well at all recently and I know he will just be using recent matches as prep for the main event but Rafa still managed to beat him in Australia despite being nowhere near his best.

Medvedev was heavy heavy favourite before the draw for me, not so much after it mind  Cake walk of a draw for Rafa to play his way into form for the second week. Good draw for Alcaraz as well.

Francisco Cerundolo seeded 24th ffs. It's about time we stopped all of these daft little 250 clay events in the little villages of Venezuela or Bolivia or wherever that seem to go on year round. He's 24 year old and has only won six ATP main draw matches on a surface that isn't clay in his life and yet he's seeded 24th. Only won five hard court matches at main draw level and they were all in one tournament. Load of shite.

I really don't understand what's happened with Murray, he's completely fell off a cliff since Stuttgart. He was inconsistent at the start of the year with some rubbish performances but they were mixed in with some very good ones.

Last few months he's been dreadful. Not playing well today but Cerundolo has hit a rather stunning amount of unforced errors. If he gets over the line then a win's a win I guess.

Only 16 games in, Cerundolo's already made 28 unforced errors and Muzz has made 18...

Tsitsipas out in the first round , doubt anyone was taking him seriously anyway but still expected him to get further than that .
Stan Wawrinka two sets down, didn’t see himself coming back so pulled out. Maybe he had an injury.
He’s finished now like , should retire , shame like as on his day he could beat anyone , probably the only player who on his day could make Djokovic look ordinary .

Expect Draper to go far in this - huge talent

Don't be surprised to see Nadal find enough to win - hasn't lost a grand slam match this year.

As for the woman's - it's anyone's guess.

Kyrgios v Medvedev (if it happens) 4th round will decide the finalist.

Think Nadal has to have a really off day v Alcaraz or someone of that quality not to make the final.

Medvedev has not beaten a top 10 player in a couple months now, so think Nadal has a better chance against him then against Kyrgios
Raducanu one set down and getting treatment for blisters on her hands.
Not sure it would have made much difference last night but the decision to bin her coach from last years US Open is looking worse and worse by the tournament.

Under him she got through 3 weeks playing Tennis every other day with no apparent blisters or injuries.

Don’t wanna be too harsh as I appreciate she’s just a kid but has Emma Raducanu won a single set since THAT US open last year???

Looking like one of sportings biggest ever flashes in the pan.

She's won quite a few sets. Reached round 2 at each of the other slams this year as a starter.

Today was always going to be tough for her, playing an experienced and very talented player. I think she'll come good again eventually. Dropping down the rankings may help a little, oddly enough.

Not really sure what Raducanu’s trying to do at the minute. She doesn’t seem to have a consistent style of play. Hired Beltz that worked with Kerber and has flipped that and now works with Sabakenka and Kontaveit’s ex coach. Not really sure what she’s looking for. That specific loss last night means nowt but she just looks a bit lost out there more often than not.

Pressure put on her has been mental to be fair so at least she can hit the reset button in a couple months time. Interesting to see who finishes higher out of her and Jack Draper next year.

I've not seen Serena Williams play this well in a long long long loooooong time. Not the cleanest overall but some of the hitting from both players is incredible, she genuinely looks like she's moving better than any match I can remember seeing since she had the bairn. Re-directing Kontaveit's battering shots like it's nowt.
