I think the RL 50 has been successful in that it's aim is to be a development tournament for emerging players. We've competed in Most games and given that we've effectively been without both overseas players can look back with some satisfaction. Gibson, Maclinden and Killeen have certainly benefited and developed, had we just one overseas player to provide the backbone of our innings I'm confident many of our defeats would have been reversed.Certainly a far more encouraging campaign than the T20 even though the respective league tables don't show it.
Blaming the ECB for finishing bottom of the league is a stretch… blame the people at the top of the tree for their signings and selections when they knew which players they would be without. Some good performances today but it's still going to be another defeat. We seem to lack the killer (no pun intended) instinct to finish sides off.
In the Somerset game they look like they could win that so we could finish bottom of the group thanks to the ECB.
On doneathy - I have heard he has been falling short of the fitness standards the club are setting nowadays and not doing much to try and improve. Not sure on the truth in it but appears the club are not going to pick him in at 11 until he hits the levels they have determined ‘minimum’..
Yep I heard similar too about this but then again I remember hearing a while back that one or two of the senior players didn’t pass the fitness standards yet they were allowed to carry on playing? Maybe Doneathy isn’t happy with how this has played out in that if other players can carry on playing why can’t he and that why should a simple fitness test hinder him from gaining valuable experience in the competition with a lot of opportunities to score runs and take some wickets??On doneathy - I have heard he has been falling short of the fitness standards the club are setting nowadays and not doing much to try and improve. I was waiting for someone to mention this. He has had a poor season at all levels.Doneathy's stats this season in both 2nd XI and NEPL don't merit elevation to the 1st team.
Disgrace he's not in the team @GordonMuchallNo1FanI was waiting for someone to mention this. He has had a poor season at all levels.
Maybe they don't but when he's in the squad and others are failing, he should be given a chance. We are rewarding failure with numerous senior players this year in all competitions and the results reflect thatDoneathy's stats this season in both 2nd XI and NEPL don't merit elevation to the 1st team.

Durham were/are missing key players due to England and Hundred, so are every other county as well, so that cannot be used as sole excuse.

Yep. As I understand it, fitness is being ranked above cricketing skills or performance as a criteria for selection.Yep I heard similar too about this but then again I remember hearing a while back that one or two of the senior players didn’t pass the fitness standards yet they were allowed to carry on playing? Likewise. Discipline is important. Fitness is important. But it’s no good having a team of well behaved fit lads who aren’t the best cricketers available. Whichever way you look at it, results strongly suggest that the current regime isn’t working. Is it not about discipline? He is a professional sportsman and in this day and age fitness is important.
Just saying, not having a go at the lad. I like him as a player and hope this all gets resolved for him.
Or just a good mate of Marcus North'sMaddinson must be fit as f*ck
I have no idea how a competition where we finished bottom losing 7 out of the 8 hands can be described as "encouraging" or "successful", even if some of the young players showed some promise.I think the RL 50 has been successful in that it's aim is to be a development tournament for emerging players.
