Not really. It’s something the media does. When Owen Jones pointed out the level of groupthink at even the highest levels of journalism Twitter went crackers due to the amount of reporters losing their shit.

There’s no denying NE sports reporters regularly socialise and talk to each other, it’s all over their social media.

One of the worst things about these journos is the Saudi chopped up one of their, own a real journalist standing up for human rights, carry out investigations and exposing what he found.

I would have thought their would be some sort of reaction maybe a show of solidarity. A man doing his job chopped up ffs

Of all the mag client journalists, he is the absolute worst. A mawkish hack, peddling sentimentality and Geordie Exceptionalism (whatever the fuck that is). Absolutely nauseous stuff from him these days. Hypocrite.

It’s what they do. Look at how the robber barons of the Mont Perrin society spread there sphere of influence. The use of outrider journalists gave neo liberalism traction as journalists either on the pay roll or just complicity spread the message. Then the barrons bought up the media outlets.

The Saudis aim to do the same but with their image and sphere of influence, using PR companies and buying up media companies. Also Saudi media group bid nearly billion for Chelsea I think.

Something I’ve never quite understood is the fundamental motivations behind sportswashing

Why do they put so much time and effort and money into it?

On one hand it’s: they hate the western culture. Then on the other hand they’re falling over themselves to get immersed in it.

Then on ANOTHER hand they’re doing stuff (the executions, persecution, etc) that, coupled with them desperately trying to raise their profile, just brings them a load of bad press.

They’re rich as fuck anyway. Is it because the oil market is one day gonna go so they’re trying to diversify? But we all know that owning sports clubs especially football clubs isn’t exactly a cash cow.

Wouldn’t it be better from their point of view just to crack on doing what they’re doing?

If I didn’t have such a low opinion of NUFC I’d say it’s sad to see them getting drawn into it all.

He shouldn't get the time of day from any SAFC fan tbh. What a wet lettuce. Moaned like fuck about zero hour contracts. Only piped up about the white and green third kit since the murderers took over NUFC. Embarrassing for a lad whose schtick has always been as a salt-of-the-earth advocate for the North East.

Don't think the NE press pack are held in very high regard tbf. Luke Edwards regularly has the piss ripped out of him by the rest of the Sport Press world. They play absolute havoc with him:lol:

I don’t think there’s a sportswriting job quite like the NE.

You can be brilliant or trashy it doesn’t matter as long as you mushroom NUFC fans at the expense of every other team.

The impression I got was that he'd got on the bandwagon as soon as it was done. Went from 'it won't happen' to the lamentable 'cans' bullshit as soon as the weather changed. If he's done a load of writing about the horrors of the Saudi regime in the meantime I'll give him some credit. What's definitely true is that he's a talentless arse - and the rest of the UK press pack view him as such
