Absolutely. Any shared love of a sport is the root of all sportwashing and thanks to events in the NE I’ve had my eyes opened.

I didn’t care that Qatar own PSG (whose chairman recently joined UEFA’s Executive Commitee) sponsored Roma and Bayern Munich then started a football school with Real Madrid, who are sponsored by Emirates airline, that Man United have a credit card partnership with UAE, Abu Dhabi own Man City, that up until recently Schalke were sponsored by Gazprom… it could be argued that KSA were just trying to catch up with everyone else.

Until now only German fans have stood up to Sportswashing (Bayern with Qatar and Schalke with Gazprom) which made it harder for shady buyers.

To compensate Bendy Boris has made it easier for them to come over here and that too has got me thinking about UK ethics, moral ambiguity and exploitation at home.

I should probably thank yous for realising all this and try to wean myself off football if this continues but it’s difficult. Hopefully souls are returnable.

I believe many mags are of a persuasion to, "support the team, not the regime" and I can recall many citing this as a reason to keep attending since the mid-Ashley days.
