I often wonder if any of the resident mags have ever met/interacted with an Saudis? If so what were your impressions?

Well I honestly don’t know anyone who thinks like that.
I’m not saying you do, and you are one of the decent ones so I don’t want to argue with you but, I had women who I really like, and respect, and who would usually be staunch defenders of womens rights, on my FB saying things like “well apparently I’m not allowed to support Newcastle anymore because they are awful to gays and women”
and excusing the Saudis approach to women and getting defensive about any criticism towards them.

It can’t be married up, it just can’t be.
You either condone them or support them. If you condone them you stop supporting your team, if you support them, you are complicit in supporting their atrocities.
In my mind it’s that simple, and I’ve no doubt which side I’d have been on

Yep.Didnt see man city ,or p.s.g fans go on like that after their takeovers. I am sure bayern fans protested at the hint of saudi involvement in their club. But we are the bad ones, aye

Man City fans dressed up and celebrated. We've had photos in here. Dunno about PSG but I doubt they're upset at how things are going

Opinions are what generate debate, however, this board is sorely lacking in balance which creates more of an echo chamber than grounded discussion of opinions.
Thats probably because when it comes to your owners there is very little debate to be had.
There is not a single decent thing about them, and that’s being kind. Yet you laud them, while hating Ashley.
For the sake of fairness, was Ashley perfect, of course not, was he part of a regime that committed awful acts, no.

I’ve got a lot of time for you, always have done, you know that.
You say “condone them or support them”.
I support Newcastle, have done for 50 years. But I absolutely condone what happens in their country, same as everyone else I know.
It’s difficult for you lot to understand, if the Saudis took over Sunderland I’d probably be the same. It’s a stick to beat the enemy with. I wrestled with my conscience for a while when they took over, then I thought, bollocks, I didn’t do anything about it before they took over, and I still don’t. I support Newcastle, and will do for the foreseeable future.
Hope you’re well!

Aaah you again. You untied yourself from the knots you twisted yerself in earlier?
You mean when I had to explain it to you slowly?

I'm still not sure you grasped the point.

You lot are saying condone when you mean condemn

Another example of moral cowardice. No one is expecting anyone to go on a global crusade. But if you don't confront evil when it takes hold of something you care about, when will you confront it?

I’m very well thanks, and the same as far as having a lot of time.

But, I can’t help but disagree that it’s difficult for us lot to understand, I can say hand on heart, I’d never have gone again, me dad, who never gave a shiny shit about how we were doing, success wise, or what league we were in, his stock phrase was “I support Sunderland pet, not the League we are in” and I can say hand on heart, I know, after 70 years he’d not have gone again. He could not have stomached watching a team, however much he supported that team, being owned by a regime who had committed the disgusting atrocities your owners have.

He had principles and he stood by those principles, and I guess that’s what it comes down to in the end. Principles vs football club
