High blood pressure

Interesting coincidence for me that this thread should pop up again. I was feeling a bit funny yesterday so checked my BP (which is always fairly high) at home, first time was 179/113 and after about 90 mins rest it was up to 182/115. Wasnt sure if this needed medical attention or not but leaving it for the time being as I feel fine today. Not checked it today yet as I don't know if that's what is causing it to rise in the first place.
Go to the doctors. That is extremely high.

Got seen quickly at the Doctors and been given a low dose of Ramipril to start off with.
Did the docs reading look similar to your own ?

One of the issues of doing home readings is that the kit can get out of calibration . I used to have 2 different upper arm devices - were about 10% different in reading

It's a good guide to use a home device though - and it allows you to measure your normal ( relaxed ) rate ..... As opposed to the rate in the doctors room which can get quite a bit higher.... if medical environments stress you out 😉
Jesus. they are telling me mines high at 130 over 90.
130 is OK for upper

90 a little high for lower

I was sceptical because the monitor I have is about 10 years old but it was pretty close, couple out systolic but diastolic was exactly the same.

They start you on a low dose and will increase it over the next few months until they find a level which works or add in other drugs.

Also worth reviewing your current lifestyle to reduce risk factors.

Unless he is a supreme athlete I would be having a radical look at the lifestyle.

@Wildfire if you have spare timber get rid of it. If you think you eat too much crap. Stop eating crap. If you drink too much cut it out apart from the odd night out. If you don't exercise much then start doing loads.

I was getting on high side of normal in my 40s and has raised cholesterol so changed stuff. It works and not on any drugs. I actually prefer the fitter healthier life and reckon I will enjoy older years much more.

I'm not after living to a really old age. Just would like to walk to the pool and go for a swim in the week leading up to my death. (At least 20 years hence)
