Tricky game to start the season this weekend. Newly promoted team with a lot of new signings. Forest looking to make four wins in a row in the premier league.

Yep. That's their aim, improve their global image by becoming synonymous with sport. I don't think it will work. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Qatar after the world cup

The PIF invest in projects for one of two reasons; either on the traditional investment model (spend £ to make ££), or to improve their standing on a global scale.

NUFC is clearly the latter. Some call it sportswashing. Others call it PR. Similar I guess to Leicester and Cardiff.

In this case they have some work to do to have everyone believe they are nice guys with a similar moral compass to the average bloke on the street.

It's working on their fans. The likes of mills and boon have fell in love with the idea enough to actually condone their shenanigans. Because other teams are just as bad they say. Weak willed fools

There's definitely a bit of the first to it though, look at what Man City was bought for versus its valuation now. Obviously you can't get close to knowing exactly how much money was pumped in via sponsorship etc but it's not just throwing money at it and writing it off as they will have a much more valuable asset at the end of it

So given their position of influence in British football and how you said you do not condone anything human rights related, do you believe PIF are suitable and appropriate owners of NUFC?
 
They're still using the fact our owner's family buisness is owned 45% by a dubai wealth fund who have human rights issues. As far as I am aware Kyril's money was from his own trust fund. I suppose they are saying his family are in bed with similar people so who are the mackems to throw human rights issues our way. I think they miss the point that they begged for these people to own the club whilst also making it out that makes it ok.

I'm terms of their human rights record, no. Would be grand if all shitty regimes were prohibited from trying to improve their image in this way.

In terms of improving the football side of things, they're a much better shout than the previous fella

I’m not so sure mate. Man City haven’t just spent on the club. They’ve built an infrastructure for the community. I can’t imagine that’s because they’ll see a tangible commercial return.

I don’t think they’ve done it because they love the city or the kids that might play on their pitches. But it gives more credence to Abu Dhabi as a nice guy in the west.

I go to SJP regularly btw but I think I see the takeover for what it is.

But many more are apparently going than not going? Season ticket sales and matchday sales going well. Ao that suggests to me that there are either more people who don't care/turn a blind eye or actively support the takeover than object to it and aren't going.

So based on matchday attendance it would seem like there aren't any serious efforts by people to object to the takeover

Yet when bad man Ashley was in charge..... lots of protests. Lots of opposition to him. Shops being shouted at, MPs questioning his suitability to run a football club. Mental health claims.


None of that, so it would seem to me the majority of your fans are quite happy with the takeover.... some are vocally supportive of the Saudi regime owning the club... and the minority are angry but don't actually want to make their voices heard
