The Safety of Fans in the North Stand

Do the police have spotters with cameras up there? They were even videoing us at Hartlepool last week.
Apparently there's a camera in the west stand specifically for the away section which pretty much can pick out everything seat by seat. So the lad who's thrown the bottle is definitely on camera

If the ground safety authorities or police order a ban for public safety reasons, there's bugger all the EFL can do about it.

That may be the case , but if you read my post again it’s clear I was asking if the CLUB could ban away fans , I never mentioned the police.

The ground safety authorities whoever they consist of will not ban away fans because of what happened on Saturday, nor would I want them banned either.

Given what happened yesterday they should get max of 500 tickets for our next game at the SOL. SAFC can't and shouldn't let it go unpunished.

I would put them in the South West corner and south side of the West end.

Have them next to the South stand so they can sing songs at each other and up the atmosphere of the game.

Let the South end push over into the South East corner and move the family end to the opposite side because having the family end right next to the South stand is stupid and counter productive anyway.

You could put the family end up top where they won't have to worry for the most part about people swearing or acting like clowns or just give them one of the North corners as it's quiet and empty up there half the time anyway.

I guess the main problem is it'll cost more on stewards to keep the fans separated.

I'm going to take a wild stab at none of these being from yesterday?
Whilst I agree, we shouldn't be letting the stewards off the hook. I understand from off here that Coventry were allowed to bring their own, presumably to cut our own costs.

Firstly, surely all stewards have to hold an SIA badge or something equivalent and it's not ust a bunch of their own ST holders who are promising to self police?

Secondly, if we are allowing clubs to bring their own stewards to cut our own costs, how much are they willing to save before they end uo saying fuck that, OUR supporters safety is the priority?

Why aren't coppers already up there? Are we not willing to pay extra for Northumbria's not so finest to be placed up there? Are they supposes to be up there and just not arsed?

Last para. I think there's been a number of cost cutting measures which affect peoples safety at the ground and yesterday is a microcosm of it.

I'd just love getting kids up and down those stairs. Nonsensical suggestion.

The South and East Stand are the only viable options really.

North and West Stand are surrounded by boxes or corporate areas so there’s no way away fans can be positioned in or amongst them.

They should not be up high. Anywhere stuff can be thrown down should be a no no. Obviously when the away fans were in the South stand stuff could be thrown across but it’s potentially not going to do as much damage as something landing on you from 50 feet above your head.

I get that the move has reduced the number of incidents. However I’d be interested to know the breakdown of those incidents and also the size of away followings between the two.

There is no easy answer that will please anything but radio silence from the club is totally unacceptable. I’m fortunate that my seat is row 40 of the North Stand but it’s still awful to see our fans subject to this shit time and time again.

I'd still look to move them back to where they were in the South Stand, as was first intended when the stadium opened. Use the SE corner for fans moved across and you'd have a proper football atmosphere down that end with away next to home support.

Just a few weeks ago and English football made various statements on the issue of fan behaviour in stadiums.... including this section from Trevor Birch, CEO of the EFL

“This season sees new measures introduced and sanctions implemented that will serve to remind everyone attending games - but particularly the minority of people behaving in an offensive manner - that there are real life consequences for the criminal, dangerous and irresponsible conduct at football. It is wholly appropriate that these unacceptable behaviours will now be dealt with through a combination of police action and automatic club bans"

Mr Birch can be contacted on email via the following address: -

I shall be asking him if he intends to follow up on his statement and ensure such actions are really happening.
Emailed that little idiot as well, doubt we'll get anything other than a standard response from his secretary but at least we've got evidence we've highlighted it to go after the club with should something unfortunately but inevitably happen.

Probably been said, but I'm not reading 43 pages, bit apparently the bottle thrower and the flare thrower were dealt with instantly. For the record in my opinion the away fans should never be up there, only way to solve it

The lad with the flare was dealt with. Not sure about the bottle thrower.
