The Safety of Fans in the North Stand

This doesn’t make sense. Every ground has to exit the away fans successfully - just needs good policing. NE corner could be policed effectively.

of course it could. you could have the away fans anywhere you want, but as you move them from place to place you create different sets of issues to deal with. the current location is almost ideal, they have very little interface with the home fans. moving them to where they will have more interface with home fans will create a problem. a small problem maybe, but a problem that didn't already exist nonetheless. its just about risk mitigation.

Just a few weeks ago and English football made various statements on the issue of fan behaviour in stadiums.... including this section from Trevor Birch, CEO of the EFL

“This season sees new measures introduced and sanctions implemented that will serve to remind everyone attending games - but particularly the minority of people behaving in an offensive manner - that there are real life consequences for the criminal, dangerous and irresponsible conduct at football. It is wholly appropriate that these unacceptable behaviours will now be dealt with through a combination of police action and automatic club bans"

Are there any rules in the Championship that allow a club to arbitrarily ban away fans after what is in effect a relatively isolated incident ( not interested if you disagree ) and is clearly not a situation of major disorder ?

I‘d be interested knowing what the FA allow in this sort of situation , I’m thinking along the lines of banning away fans outright would be too much punishment in this particular case even if it was allowed for in the rules.

If the ground safety authorities or police order a ban for public safety reasons, there's bugger all the EFL can do about it.

I wouldn't dispute we also have arseholes in our support who also do the same, but 99.9% of our fans aren't which gives us the right to condemn the actions of the Coventry fans yesterday. I was sitting right over towards the North End of the East stand and could see with my own eyes the amount of missiles thrown down on our fans and it was disgusting. How nobody wasn't seriously injured I don't know.

If we play them again next season I'd refuse to allocate them any tickets.

Your fan on one of our podcasts said Boro as well recently? Presume you'd cause bother at Villa, Birmingham etc. too no?

I was also once there when you played Chesterfield in League Two a few years ago as a natural and your lot invaded the pitch and someone attacked Chesterfields keeper. Also there were a couple fans in the home end who turned around after you scored and offered out the entire crowd, to which a couple of Chesterfield lads duly obliged There was plenty of trouble before and after the game. Might have been a one off though?

What issues? The only major 'issues' have been your lot working themselves. This isn't a tit for tat thing. It's wankers in your support that have probably been drinking dark fruits and putting marching powder up their beak at 6am.

Has anyone mentioned the positioning of away coaches? We and countless other SAFC fans walk past away coaches after the games and there's never any coppers there. Didn't see any bother with Cov yesterday, all relatively good natured, but all it takes is one spark and there'd be hell on?

People have forgotten all the fuss about that when they were moved up there, nor when they closed the concourse.

My own email to the club requests the following actions. Feel free to copy and paste if you wish.

1. (That the club) Issue an immediate public statement condemning such behaviour from visiting fans and promising that a proper investigation is being undertaken immediately.

2. The club to contact the EFL, the Football Association and the visiting club and ask for their own views and intended actions. I understand that we, as a club, reduced the no. of tickets available to Coventry City yesterday because of previous actions of their fans. I believe that this type of action needs to be consistently taken by ALL clubs in the championship, i.e. Coventry City should have restriction placed on available away tickets at all Championship venues for an extensive period.

3. The promised investigation needs to have it's resulting actions communicated to Sunderland fans - particularly those of us who sit in the North Stand - including how CCTV and witness statements have been used to identify and take sanctions against the perpetrators.

They pissed off a few when they went into the North Upper but still went ahead. But yeah with segregation down in the lower bowl I'd imagine they'd look at all other options first before doing that.

There will be some who have had the same seat since the ground opened. People will have made friends with those sat around them too. I don't think it's right to penalise folk due the actions of morons.

What's the issue that causes your lot to throw a smoke canister and glass bottle into a crowded lower section?

If you are going to move them then obvious way would be to put them in the North lower. Surely those that sit there and are the ones affected would understand why they have to move?
