We have money to spend but very little room to manoeuvre on wages.

Think Rodgers was counting on shifting the plethora of deadwood (A lot of which was signed by him) but unsurprisingly no one wants our shite. Recruitment has been very poor since he demanded more of a say and brought in Congerton - who has thankfully now been squeezed out.

Rumours Kasper could be on his way to Nice which as one of our top earners would give a bit of leeway but leave a massive hole in character and leadership.

Several players need to go but who is going to take then?

Vestergaard, Bertrand, Perez, Soumare, Choudhury etc.

Everyone was expecting Tielemans to go also but Arsenal seem to be flirting but then signing other players and a very poor season from him last year has perhaps not given him as many options as he thought he'd have.

Very happy with our starting eleven if they can stay free of injury and a lot less congestion without Europe but if the injuries pile up again we could well struggle. Injuries another thing that we were great at managing before Rodgers came, he then forced out our Head Physio and it went to pot.

Congers  dear me, it's amazing how he manages to jump from one job to the next. Fair play to him.

Was the reason you seemed to drop off last season due to injuries? I didn't watch much of the prem last season but I'm guessing Vardy and/or Maddison was suffering from injuries?
We lost Fofana in the last pre season friendly with an awful broken leg, this was a massive blow then the injuries just kept coming .
Ricardo, Castagne, Justin , Evans , that’s all the first choice defence all out for months with bad injuries. Maddison, Vardy , Ndidi also out for months.
As for Rodgers it’s a real difficult one.
We were a hard watch for a lot of last season but looking back I think it was down to the injuries.
I think some of our fan base have got above themselves calling for his head, I have changed my mind a few times but I think he is a top top coach/manager. My problem with him is I think he covets other jobs. If they have a dip and get rid of Howe I fully expect him to be installed up the road from you pretty sharpish.
I'm a Derby fan but yeah, good luck to Sunderland anyway 😉
I know you’re a Ram mate.
We’ve chatted on here before about the old days 🤕

Rodgers is a brilliant coach, top class. You'd struggle to replace him with better

I think Vardy will go backwards this year as age catches up with him and this will be a big problem for them.

I remember seeing the Fofana tackle on YouTube. Absolutely ridiculous tackle from the Valencia (I think?) player to make - especially in a friendly.

Been reading comments like this for the past 4 years.
It’s true enough though
The rest of the squad is very very good at this point, especially if others like Tielemans stays. Just think they need a big money striker to take his place now.

He’s a one off.
So much more to his game these days.
He doesn’t rely so much on pace now.
It used to be that defenders knew what he was going to do but just couldn’t live with him if the pass over the top was right . Nowadays they don’t know how to mark him , his movement is top drawer ,

Agreed, his movement is superb. One of the most intelligent strikers the Premier League has seen. He has the complete game. Finishing stats are off the scale. Right foot, left foot or head - doesn't matter.

Still think Perez will come good and replace Vardy. He is a very intelligent player too

Keeping the players we have fit is the key
After the obvious 6 then I’d say we have a squad as good as anybody else and way better than most.
This so called log jam of needing to sell to buy is likely more a case of if someone does go then we look to replace.
The first 15 or so really are top quality and losing any of them would be a blow and would be hard to replace , if one or more of the back up go then they can be replaced with similar quality.
The average age is quite low apart from Evans and Sir Jamie.
After the Title win we spunked quite a bit on bad buys and I for one am not bithrrrd by the lack of activity when I look at what we already have.
Good luck for the new season Sunderland 🦊💙
