And Brighton, don't forget Brighton, you know that team that's finished 15th, 17th, 15th, 16th and 9th.
They'd be over the moon with those finishes.
But they show ambishun

He's like Boris Johnson, this fella. Says a lot without actually saying anything of note then denies saying it in the first place

There wasn't hell on when Ashley presented us with McClaren, or Hughton, why would there be hell on if he appointed a fairly well respected young manager with a reputation for playing good football like Howe? You're just making shit up man.

Don't take my comment as a compliment, it was a criticism, I'd have thought that was clear by the tone? You tweet the same thing daily and you cheapen your legitimate concerns about the Saudis by bringing your own club's record against ours into it.

No. It wasn't parsimony that got us relegated twice, it was mismanagement. It wasn't lack of funds that meant we didn't strengthen when we ended up 5th, it was lack of ambition.
I'm still taking it as a compliment. Soz 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Is it just the done thing on here to answer a point that wasn't made?

In the last 30 years NUFC has had 15 years of mostly ambition and excitement, and then 15 years of mostly regression and disillusionment. Ashley was the catalyst for that change.

The only reason you think Ashley isn't a bad owner, is because we thought he was. If we wanted to put up a statue of Keegan you'd insist he did nothing, won nothing and so shouldn't get one. If you wanted to put up a statue of Sewpa Kev, we wouldn't care.

One of your fans drove 20+ miles to piss all over a statue of Bob Stokoe! hence you statement that no one would care about a statue of Super Kev has no foundations.

You can do what the feck you want. You are all idiots.

Honestly?

If we were bought by people with modest wealth and they followed a Brighton model, I think we'd have been happy with that.
That’s got to be one of the funniest things you’ve ever said on here. I bet you were laughing away to yourself as you typed it thinking, “aye, this will get them going”.

Just ignore the fish he has a very selective memory.

Nufc were challengers from 92 onwards by overspending. Even in division 1 they were spending big money on Andy Cole.

It was all going well till Keegan bottled it. Then Gullit and Dalglish took them backwards and they spent a few seasons bottom half with the likes of Andrea Anderson And Andy Griffin.

They appointed Robson who recruited very well but wasn't back as heavily as Keegan as they were facing the shite financially. Robson was overachieving with the players and funds he had to spend.

When they started slow under Robson they sacked him and went downhill fast.

Since Robsons sacking mags have attempted to rewrite history just as the Fish is doing now. Without Ashley's takeover he could have easily saw them drop to league one.

I don't recall many mags complaining with the Smith Viduka and Geremi signings.

The mags have blew hot and cold since 92. In the 90s they challenged. Early 00s European qualifiers but that's it. This notion that they were a top club till Ashley came along is utter bullshit

A few hits is generally what all but the very top teams can expect man.
You referenced Palace - they signed Connor Wickham for £9m and Christian Benteke for £32. They also brought in Remy and Cabaye well after yoi'd done so and when past their best.
Is that the scouting you'd have wanted?

Lets look at Brighton, or Leicester, these are teams who take recruitment seriously. These are teams who've made missteps and unearthed some gems, but the point is that there is joined up thinking. That's what we didn't have and, it bears repeating, Ashley didn't invest in the department. 15yrs with no real investment in the stadium, the recruitment dept, the training ground, the academy.

But, sure, he was mint because we only owed £100m.

So how much money did you make on Sissoko Wijnaldum and Cabaye?

Thought you didn't unearth gems under Ashley?

Didn't say top club. Said we were regularly in Europe, regularly progressing in the cups. Which is irrefutable.

Alongside Anderson and Griffin we also had Speed, Solano, Dyer, Given, y'know, for balance... fwiw I wasn't happy with Smith or Geremi. I wasn't happy with Faye or Butt either.

What's happened here is that your echo chamber regurgitates the same bollocks about Newcastle and their fans and it's become canon. All Newcastle fans turned up in 1992, Newcastle were guaranteed to financially implode, Ashley saved Newcastle from ruin, etcetera.

So you would be happy to be run like Brighton and finish 17th,15th, 16th, 17th and 9th.

I'm calling bullshit.

Great post! Tell the world and the media that you are a big club and some will believe it.

The Man Utd rivalry didn't last long.

Well it is irrefutable.

How were you regularly in Europe when you finish 13th 13th 11th and 11th 4 seasons in a row

So how much money did you make on Sissoko Wijnaldum and Cabaye?

Cool Strawman, show me exactly where I said "we didn't unearth gems under Ashley". Honestly, this is so predictable. Mag comes on here and corrects something, massive pile-on from the usual suspects, where the posts are misconstrued, misrepresented, or flat out made up. Mag rebukes them, gets told he's wound up. Eventually, he's told he's obsessed with Sunderland.

You said Leicester were unearthing gems as if nufc weren't. You made quite a bit when you sold players debunking another fish myth

Because we regularly competed in European competition for the majority of that 14yr span prior to Ashley's 14yr span.

I cannot fathom how this is even up for debate.

What myth man, where did I say that we didn't sell some players for big money? Yet another strawman.

Binxy it's pretty self explanatory, compare these past 14yrs with the 14 before them. That's a good comparison, a good sample size. Comparing a post Premier League landscape to 1970s football is pointless. When I'm looking to recruit someone, I don't look at what they did for their GCSEs, I want to know their recent experience.

I'm grading Mike Ashley on what he inherited, what he did with it and what he left at the end.
He inherited a team regularly in Europe with financial issues. He failed to grow the club at all, and instead fell behind competitors on the pitch and on the balance sheet. He sold a neglected product at a profit not because of what it is, but it's potential.

You can't just pick and choose what you want to compare.
Why not choose let's say Ashleys first 10 year and previous 10.
Or does that not suit your agenda?
