I don't see anything exceptional in the Lees and Crawley innings. Mostly they got out early but when they got into the forties they were scoring at Good60 and 70 runs per hundred. A good rate but not exceptional and their innings didn't last long. But I do think Lees looks better trying to score than just blocking. But it's not the way that Bairstow and Root are playing, it's Lee's and Crawley getting the fastest hundred in test cricket. It's the mentality of putting the other team in and chasing down anything. It's building on the tactics we established in the white ball (and the talk that Stokes wants Livingston, Ali and Butler back in the side).
Sure we have good players, but we had them for the last couple of years. With our old tactics of three an over and seeing out the new ball we still lose that game 80% of the time and draw 20%.
But I think these matches has been great and exciting. A huge step forward. I'm just waiting for more evidence before saying the cricketing equivalent of the laws of gravity have been repealed.
