England v India 5th Test, Edgbaston (1st July) Match Thread

I’m not saying it’s not true but it’s amazing this is all coming out when we have seriously got them on the back foot.

Not a word in the other 4 tests because most things were going their way.
I've no reason to believe this hasn't happened after witnessing how bad the behaviour was at Headingley last week. Loads of others confirming it and sending Edgbaston pictures of the culprits.

I don't think Indian fans are claiming they have been racially abused because we are going to win a test match.
I couldn’t answer a single one of those.
Me neither mate

I'd introduce an entry quiz on the gate to stop non cricket fans getting in

What was the bizarre similarlity between the First test and Centenary test?

What was the alternative TMS theme tune used for overseas tours in 1970s

Of which bowler did John Allott say 'curious name, neither one thing nor the other'

Name every Durham cricketer to have played international cricket (not necessarily whilst they were playing for Durham.....I don't have the answer to that one!).....and no cheating !!!
Didn't the first test and centenary test end in exactly the same result? The Aussies winning by 40-odd runs?

46 runs at a guess?

That's right, the innings when he wound Lillee up with his daft antics!

I've heard the Arlott one before but can't remember off the top of my head. It's a belting line though!

New Zealand bowler called Bob Cunis 😂

I've heard a rumour that in a state game in the 60s when Sir Geoffrey was playing for the MCC and boring everyone senseless that the bod commentating on local radio was so surprised by Boycott getting out the he said something along the line of....

McCloud coming into Boycott, on a length, oh AND ITS BOWLED THE C**T.

I've searched for confirmation of it and never found any unfortunately

That's it. Genius! 🤣

There was also a bowler whose run-up to the wicket he described as "like Groucho Marx chasing a waitress."

Intrigued about the TMS theme tune question. No idea!

It was written by John Barry, called Florida Fantasy. If you were a kid in the 80s you'd remember it as the theme tune to the BBC kids program Wildtrack

I have a memory of me and me brother sharing a bedroom when we were about 8 and 10 turning the radio on at 3am on a winter morning to listen to TMS....I'm guessing it was the 78/79 tour. I seem to remember Gower and Randall scoring tons of runs.... although it seems a long time ago now

Ah, I've heard that music but didn't realise it had been used by TMS. 👍

Can always remember listening to oversees tours on TMS when the commentary was broadcast down a telephone line and it seemed to cut out every half hour, particularly from India, Pakistan and the Windies.

The poor presenter in the studio, usually Peter Baxter, would be left desperately filling time by reading out trivia questions really slowly....

Brilliant. There's something very special about TMS. Yep it's not quite as good as it once was but it's still beautifully eccentric.

I love Sky's coverage but I was listening to TMS the other week when I was on holiday in France and it really is superb.

I love the idea that loads of people who don't understand cricket listen to it simply for the company it gives them.

This is Shastri’s pinned tweet ffs

What the fuck have I just watched:lol:
Finally getting round to watching the highlight as been driving all day, fuming at Lees getting run out.

Twice he’s been run out by his partner whilst playing very well.

Glad that he’s made a couple of good scores to keep him in the team. Reminds me a bit of David Warner the way he’s attacked in the last couple innings.
Good comparison with Warner, that.

I like Lees. Definitely worth sticking with

He looks so much more comfortable playing this way than he did in the West Indies too.
Its the way he played when he started out at Yorkshire then for some reason he withdrew into his shell. Great to see how well he can play, 100 v RSA will come in handy to cement his place.

I would love to see Root and Bairstow see this through before lunch today.
