Kalvin Phillips signing for Manchester City

Could go both ways , look at Henderson who would have thought he would be a regular never mind captain , pep will improve him and if he succeeds then good news for England

Henderson was only 21 when he went to Liverpool, though - 5 years younger than Phillips. And his competition for a place in midfield (alongside Gerrard) was Jay Spearing, Lucas, Charlie Adam, and Jonjo Shelvey. Not De Bruyne, Rodri, Gundogan, and Bernardo Silva.

They've lost one of their two quality players, are about to lose the other this Summer and have pretty much zero chance of being able to replace them with better.

I'd be gutted if I was a Leeds fan.

They’ve lost a holding midfielder for £50m - maybe one or two in the whole world that go for that money in that position.

Raphina (if he goes) is a much bigger loss.

Leeds getting a great deal for a tidy player,
I wouldn’t be gutted. I work with two and they’re happy to take the money and would rather keep the Brazilian if it was an option.

Wasn’t great last season due to injuries but back to his best he’s an influential if unspectacular CM. Would not surprise me if he plays regularly. That said wouldn’t be surprised to see him barely get a game either.

They scraped survival on the final day, Raphinia played the majority of the season whereas Phillips was injured. Phillips is/was pivotal to them functioning as a team. That central area of the pitch without Phillips was nothing short of appalling. Is Raphinia a better player? Oh I wouldn't disagree at all, but don't agree that he's a much bigger loss.

Simple fact (IMO of course) is that they won't replace Phillips with better, as a fan I wouldn't care what the fee is. They are rapidly heading one way right now.

Am very surprised by this signing.
Rodri was superb last season, having improved so much. He slips under the radar but is so important to City.
Cannot see Phillips getting more than 12 League starts next season, but will be an important squad player. He may play all the cup games, except for the Champs League ? Hopefully, for England's sake, he will improve with the training Pep gives him.
Think this makes City even bigger favourites for the League next season ?...

Its a great feal for Leeds. He's a defensive midfielder going dor big money. Spent that on a centre back and forward and they'd be a better side. How many holding midfielders really keep teams up?

Hope he doesn’t regret the move professionally

An important player at Leeds and in the England team, wonder how much game time he’ll get at Man City

Here’s a true story; was playing football a few year ago at uni and my mate from Garsforth pointed to some kid on the other pitch who was having a lighthearted kick about with his mates and said he’d play for England. I laughed and said yeah right, anyways looks like he’s about to sign for City
