What? What logic is this?
So if a player is good somewhere else you can't make a judgement on his ability until he's played for your own team, or compare him against your current players?
You have no idea that he will transfer any form from Burnley (relegated) before he has set foot onto the pitch for nufc

you can assume he maybe an upgrade but until proven beyond doubt , that’s all it is. An assumption

thats logic for you

Aye but the tea towel wearing idiots probably expected us to be going from perennial strugglers to title challengers in two windows.

They are not the small minority that people like to think.

The tea towel wearers are back tracking with "trust the owner" blah blah. ...

Wasn't the deal about €25-30m when first interest was shown and his release clause was around €30m? After a quick google I found this below. Hoy in the wages as that's supposedly over £100k a week over 20 weeks then that's another £2m for his 430 minutes Premier League football. That's pushing near to £5,000 a minute or £280k for an hour on the pitch  He could well have had a personal bonus if the mags stayed up, as will other players as being relegated would have cost NUFC a shit load lot more than a few million in bonuses to players.

Reporters with club sources at Newcastle suggest the deal was agreed at just £12m plus add-ons.

However, Express Sport understands negotiations on Monday - when Atletico finally conceded defeat in their bid to keep Trippier - were pointing more towards a figure of £25m.

Trippier's current deal at Atletico is worth around £78,000 per week. It's claimed he will now earn upwards of £100,000 per week once he has signed on the dotted line at St James' Park.

However, Newcastle and Atletico Madrid are now on the verge of agreeing a deal expected to be in the region of £25million (between €28m-€30m).

Good work.

Although he got injured early on, I think you could see he was influential on the pitch. He's way above the standard of the squad he came into. Playing for Atletico then coming into struggling Newcastle, he's clearly a cut above. Seemed to make others raise their performances. As you say paying a bit more in add ons or bonuses is worth it compared to the impact of a relegation.
Structuring the deal that way obviously helps with FFP, and getting relegated is way worse for your balance sheet than spending an extra 15 mill euros on bonus payments or add ons

You can’t say Pope is better yet. You can assume he maybe but it’s to be seen

He's 30. His game is probably at as high a standard as it's ever going to get and ultimately it wasn't good enough for Burnley. Less than 10 England caps so he's not the long term choice there either.

Better than Darlow? Definitely. Better than Dubravka no. Nowhere near.

They'd have been better off developing woodman

He was easily let go, was he not? For a first team player you say, to be out on loan that easily

its up to you if you are happy with that, despite all the propaganda of the worlds richest club and so on.

you signed a Villa player that gerrard was happy to see the back of.

Of course we would be happy with that. He’s a good player who kept us in the division and improved us. Why wouldn’t we be? There’s some proper odd perspectives being thrown about.

Thanks. Good for you, it’s not unexpected that you post as you do

im just thankful you’ve confirmed it

Woodman is 25 now, he recently spent two years on loan at Swansea. Last season he played a bit for nufc and looked a bit dodgy, then went on loan to Bournemouth and never got a game.

He was highly regarded as a teen when they won the world cup with England, but perhaps they've had a look at him over the last few years and thought he's not gonna fulfil that potential.
25 still relatively young for a keeper, but after two full seasons in the championship plus what they have seen in training they've obviously decided he's not worth keeping. Could bite them on the arse.
The move may well have been driven by Woodman. Not likely to dislodge Dubravka and having had a taste of regular football with Swansea, doesn't wanna sit on the bench wasting his career like Steve Harper.

Though it was a joke but nah, the Islam or death owners have announced Pope with a gif of white smoke when the knew Pope is selected. In the Vatican. By catholic leaders. To be the vicar of Christ

Even at 30 , in todays market , 10m for Pope is good business, it pains me to say.
Aye he's a decent player but bargain basement hunting from a relegated team with financial struggles and weren't they looking at other keepers? Probably offered him higher wages than most clubs interested in him but that's what they probably have to do to get players to come.
