Ujpest Dosza?

Oh I remember, those European giants.

At least West Auckland beat Juventus when they won their European trophy
Some no marks who got a bye to tue Semis or something because Hamburg pulled out of the 1/4 finals

Such an important trophy get to the last 8 “We’re pulling out” 😂
Wikipedia appears to have missed the Fairs Cup major honours that were on FIFA.com for Valencia, Arsenal and Ferencvaros. Would one of you add that in please, I wouldn’t want anyone to think I had polluted it.
The Fairs Cup the massive trophy you got in by finishing 10th and Hamburg withdrew from in the last 8

I didn't know that but just checked how Újpest FC got to the final:

Újpest FC Hungary w/o Luxembourg US Luxembourg
Aris Thessaloniki F.C. Greece 2–11 Hungary Újpest FC
Legia Warszawa Poland 2–3 Hungary Újpest FC
Leeds United England 0–3 Hungary Újpest FC

In another QF:

Göztepe A.Ş. Turkey w/o West Germany Hamburger SV(withdrew)

Then in SF:

Göztepe A.Ş. Turkey 1–8 Hungary Újpest FC

Fair play that they got past Leeds, who were champions of England at the time -

So here we have the 68-69 league table. I get why Everton didn't get to play in the Fairs Cup (Even though they finished 13 points ahead of the mags) but not sure on Arsenal and why Chelsea went in ahead of them? I guess Arsenal and also Southampton declined the opportunity? This is why FIFA didn't recognise it (or was it UEFA) as it was not based on sporting merit.

Either way for a big club it is 24,511 days since the 55 FA cup win, 19362 days for the 69 Fairs Cup win.....not really in a position to gloat as 17,938 days since our 73 win (unless you are having the pizza cup win)!

I love using the Datedif function in Excel sessions - wonder if the next time I deliver it in the ME any of the Saudi's will say they support the mags!

En route:

Feijenoord - 2nd in Dutch league to qualify;
Sporting - 2nd in Portuguese league
Real Zaragoza - 5th in Spanish League
Setubal - 5th in Portuguese League
Rangers - 2nd in Scottish league
Ujpest - 2nd in Hungarian league

Leeds United (C) 67 - European Cup
Liverpool 61 - Fairs Cup
Everton 57
Arsenal 56
Chelsea 50 - Fair Cup
Tottenham Hotspur 45
Southampton 45
West Ham United 44
Newcastle United 44 - Fairs Cup
West Bromwich Albion 43
Manchester United 42
Ipswich Town 41
Manchester City 40 - ECWC
Burnley 39
Sheffield Wednesday 36
Wolverhampton Wanderers 35
Sunderland 34
Nottingham Forest 33
Stoke City 33
Coventry City 31
Leicester City 30

That's the wrong league table.
You want the 67/68 one.

That 68/69 table shows us as qualifying for the fairs cup 69/70 as defending champions.
This just illustrates it had all the gravitas of a pre-season invitational.

Everton? - No Liverpool in already.
Arsenal? - no thanks, we'll pass.
Spurs? - No Chelsea in already.
Southampton? - not eligible - not held a European trade fair
West ham? - No Chelsea already in.

Had any of West Brom, Ipswich, Burnley, Wolves, Sunderland, Stoke or Leicester finished ahead of the Mags they would also have been passed over as ineligible based on their lack of qualifying trade fair.

The trade fairs thing was in the early incarnations of the tournament when it was played over two years. The one club per city rule was abolished in the mid 60s with places awarded on merit. The FA chose to carry that rule on even into the 70s with the uefa cup

Cheers! Still not sure then why Arsenal weren't in it for 1969-70 season having finished 4th.

So, courtesy of wiki even though I hate it as a reference -

1 Manchester City (C) - EC by coming 1st
2 Manchester United - EC by being winners?
3 Liverpool - Fairs Cup
4 Leeds United - wiki says they weren't in it but Ujpest beat them en route?
5 Everton - didn't get in as Liverpool in
6 Chelsea - Fairs Cup
7 Tottenham Hotspur - didn't get in as Chelsea in?
8 West Bromwich Albion - ECWC
9 Arsenal - didn't get in as Chelsea in?
10 Newcastle United - Fairs Cup
11 Nottingham Forest
12 West Ham United
13 Leicester City
14 Burnley
15 Sunderland
16 Southampton
17 Wolverhampton Wanderers
18 Stoke City

Leeds won the fairs cup in 68 so were defending champions in 68 69.

All your other notations are right

Well that clarifies that. Any idea on why no Arsenal the following year?

Error on the page. Arsenal won in 69/70

The page is badly structured. The 68/69 league page shows the fairs cup participants in 68/69.
Usually on pages like that it tells you who qualified for the following season's European competitions.
