Truth with Howe is he isn’t as brilliant or as bad as some make out.

Did he improve the performance of some existing players and team in general, clearly, he also made them hard to play against so tactically he improved them as well.

Did he also have help by way of an injection of cash and new players to the team, absolutely as well as momentum of the takeover and feel good factor from seeing the back of Bruce and Ashley.

Taking into consideration his target when coming in will have been nothing more than staying up, then has over achieved.

Coming in and steadying the ship is one thing, being able to kick on from that position is another. He has a great chance as by premier league standards most of the squad he inherited was shite so shouldn’t take much to get better than what they have.

His challenge is to mould them into a unit that takes them to the next level ie solid, mid table mediocrity for a few years with the odd cup run thrown in …..unlikely to be enough for some of their fan base.

Good post, but you’re wrong with your view on expectations. Everyone WANTS to be Top 4, majority will be happy with top half and a decent pop at the cups.
Contrary to a lot of the posts on here, we’re a patient lot in general, we’ve had to be, winning f**k all for years.
You’ve clearly not checked out the mag forum, goes against what you’re saying.

There’s some on there angry because you haven’t even competed with a bid for Nunez
Ironically before they spent £92 million 😶
Remember when they postponed a game because they had injuries (not covid) so they could get to the transfer window :lol::lol:

What irks me is this “big club” tag that seems to follow you lot around…big clubs win trophies and you lot haven’t won anything in what? 60 years? I don’t think a certificate for the inter toto cup counts as there would be what? 3 winners in that

Thing with the mags is it is inevitable they will be successful. But success is subjective.

They will most likely win a league or FA Cup and place in top 4.

I don't see them ever winning the top honours however. Even Man City have struggled to attract the massive names and that's being in a much more glamorous part of the country.

Even if they did produce a Salah once they made a name they would want to move to a bigger club.

You seem to have forgot about the bit where he brought a team from the bottom of league 4 up to the premier league. Never mind that bit though. 😆
You would have been f***ing livid if Ashley had appointed behEddie fact ! He was your murderous owner’s 6th choice ffs ! But now he’s the new messiah after Keegoon and Rafa

Follows us? Maybe…
Not something I would throw around.
The whole big club or not is a bit tedious isn’t it and on social media it’s awful. Chelsea and Man City labelled as small clubs by Man Utd and Liverpool fans as their success is recent. Who gives a fuck if Leeds or Sheffield Wednesday are bigger?
Don’t let it irk you, better things to worry about!

I don’t think that’s true mind. I thought he did an incredible job at Bournemouth and would have had him any day over the fat lad from Corbridge. There was plenty of discussion around Howe as England manager before Southgate.

That would be more than enough for me. I am 54. We have won nothing during my lifetime.

The problem Newcastle have is that Liverpool and Man City are miles ahead already and are buying players that are well out of reach of Newcastle. Haaland and to a lesser extent Nunez are not only tremendous players but intelligent signings both of which will improve already world class teams.

Newcastle had to make do with Chris Wood who wouldn’t get on the bench of any of the top 10 teams in the country and this has eaten up quite a bit of the ffp budget.

I personally don’t think that money now will close the gap and bring success, maybe if they came in 10 years ago but not now.

Totally agree.

A valid comparison is Bayern v Dortmund.

Dormund make clever signings all the time but can never catch Bayern. That's because Bayern are always so far ahead and a much bigger club.

Dortmund aren't skint. They just aren't as attractive option than Bayern

Haven’t Everton basically maxed out their FFP over the past few years?

If Newcastle’s spending continues as per January’s then they could be on the same path

In fact the last time they made a profit on their transfer spending was the 2016/17 season after they’d been relegated and had to offload sissoko, wjinaldum, etc

Everton’s turnover is also greater than Newcastle’s so without some creative accounting to bypass FFP rules I can’t see them pushing on long term

2 games. Southampton and Everton both away.

His stock was only high before he got Bournemouth relegated.

Southgate was an FA man too but he really only got the job because he was English.

Howe wouldn't have ever been in the running if he was born anywhere but Blighty.

There are easily 4 or 5 better foreign managers in the Premier League than Beheaddie.

His stock is even higher now. Nominated for Manager of the Year no less.
Howe, Potter and Gerrard are the new young gun English managers and it won’t be long before one of them gets a big job and makes a success of it. Eddie could well do it without moving.

Some paranoia going on there. I’d be surprised if any football club didn’t engage with local schools. But you’re saying it’s THE BIGGEST example of sports washing. You sound like a wet blanket to me.
Fair play for making your point to the school mate but we're pissing in the wind with this sort if thing im afraid. Living over here I think we've just got to take our medicine with these sorts of things
Very true, probably looking into it a bit much, im just sad she doesn’t get to experience the foundation of light but you cant change where we live.
I think its more the fact I absolutely despise everything about them but my daughter has been to the SOL loads now and shes a MLF!

If England want success they need a superb foreign manager. Not an average, by Premier League standards English manager.

I'm delighted you appointed Howe. He'll get you nowhere near the top 4.
