Durham’s T20 Campaign

Well just got home. Absolutely disgusted with the manner of that performance. I don't recall a more spineless Durham T20 performance at home. I don't mind losing, I don't ever anticipate Durham doing well in this competition, but what I do expect is for Durham to try and at the moment that simply isn't happening on the field and off the field (coaches). We continue to select the same players, we've won 2 in 7 which is pathetic. We are basically mixing it up by swapping the batting lineup around to extreme levels in hope something works.... What was it some fella said about doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome??? Franklin needs to go, he's taking the club backwards, the results under him speak for themselves and as I've said before I give him no credit for our cup run last year. Ironically we fucked up when he changed the team. We bowled 18 wides in 18 overs tonight, beyond embarrassing and our batting was equally as embarrassing. Ben Raine had a good game, Clark failed tonight, can't be too harsh on those. I'm still bemused why Eckersley is playing, why did we sign Robinson? What do the likes of Gibson, Doneahty, Crawhsaw (he was selected for England recently yet can't get a game for a very very poor Durham side) and Bushnell have to do to get game time??? It's clear Franklin has no faith in the younger players which is alarming given our history of producing good young lads etc we pride ourselves on that. It's time for change, enough is enough. This fella has had long enough and it's just not happening. We are heading back to where we were 4/5 year ago which is frightening.

I notice the natives are getting restless on Facebook and don't blame them one jot.

Considering the optimism at the beginning of the season this must rank as one of the most disappointing in our 30 year First Class history and let's face it there's been a few other contenders in that category.

I've been prepared to give the club the benefit of doubt in recent years due to the sanctions but no excuses this year. That tonight was an absolute disgrace to every paying supporter. As I keep saying it's a results business and under Franklin results are simply not good enough, body language/manner of defeats are appalling and we keep doing the same thing over and over again in the T20 despite only 2 wins in 7. I am yet to meet a member who has a positive word to say about Franklin. Something needs to change quickly. It was noticeable tonight the crowd (don't include the students) was smaller and that trend will continue as folk aren't going to pay to watch that rubbish. It's good to see fans starting to speak out more about it now, I first mentioned it back in August and Franklin has done nothing to change my mind. 18 wides in 18 overs tonight absolutely mind blowing.

The team just isn’t gelling, very poor coaching, not giving the full team a fair go and extremely poor batsmen communication, hesitations causing bowls

We need to try some kids now for me

but we dont have very good T20 players

They opened with Davies and Sterling, who would instantly be the best player in our team if they joined

thats the thing people just dont wanna mention like, we lack ability
we dont have very good batsman, I dont know how people cant acknowledge that, its the weakest in my life time

I've mentioned it numerous times that we lack ability. I don't expect us to be world beaters in this competition and I've said numerous times "it's a night out"..... However I don't accept the manner of our defeats(that has nothing to do with ability), I don't accept 18 wides in 18 overs (that has nothing to do with ability), I don't accept picking the same shite every game (that has nothing to do with ability) and I can't fathom out the batting lineup any time so far in this competition (again that has nothing to do with ability). About time we tried something different and I include a change of coach in that wish. That tonight was an absolute embarrassment, zero excuses. What we lack in ability we can try and make up with aggression/heart/game plan/passion and we are doing none of that.

A team lacking in confidence and any clear strategy having won 3 of 15 games this season, disillusioned and dwindling support. Players are pushed in front of the media to offer excuses for repeated inept displays. Not once has Franklin, with the grandiose title "lead high performance coach", presented himself in front of the media to explain performances that are anything but high performance.
this man is a charlatan. I seriously fear for the future of this club if he remains in post.

Valid point regarding Franklin not speaking to the media. @The Red Telephone made a good point that the next members forum must be due very soon, again communication from the club is lacking.

Finally, something to praise the club for.

I contacted the club regarding communication with members and received the following response.

Thank you for highlighting these issues and it is something we do want to improve on and are currently working with the team management to develop better and faster communication on team matters.

With regards to ground development we have put out a number of communications to members and match attendees about the situation around the redevelopment of the ground via social media, email and the website. The development has also been addressed in members forums. I am sorry this does not seem to have been clear enough and would welcome feedback on further ways we could communicate with members and supporters.

We do strive to communicate as quickly and clearly as possible but I appreciate we could be better. By way of some mitigation we are operating with a very small team at the moment but every one of us are fans ourselves and dedicated to improving communications and all other areas of the club.

Kind regards

David

I mean those are big words but as a T20 season ticket holder since about 2016 I am yet to hear anything from the club about these proposed changes. It starts from the top by changing the coaching and all the way down to revamping the ground. Need to overhaul the toilets too (as an example of how extreme the changes need to be)

Jamie Crawley who has been featuring for the 2nd XI this season has apparently been given a development contract until the end of the season.
Could he play on Friday night?
I think he is from the Midlands area

I imagine when it eventually takes place we'll get Martin Emmerson hosting with probably Borthwick and Rushy. I imagine there'll be more chance of Lord Lucan turning up on Shergar than there will of Bostock, North and Franklin facing the music.

There is in existence a video showing the proposed ground redevelopments, which I believe was shown at last season’s end of term awards event. It was mentioned at a subsequent members forum (end of last season I think, but dont quote me on that). i didn’t get the impression that it wasn‘t for public consumption, so it old be very helpful if they could perhaps put this on the DCCC website for us all to see.

Probably right. The 3 Wise Men disappeared a while ago after bearing gifts of Drissell, Peterson and Turner.

Been opening the batting for the 2nd XI in the T20 competition this season, however he's not really pulled up any trees

In fact you could say that about most of the lads in the 2nd XI this year, last week we were bowled out for 44 against Lancs in a 139 run defeat

Interesting to note Bushnell didn't play in that 44 all out game, I'm at a loss as to what benefit it is to him basically carrying the drinks with the odd quick sub appearance during this 1st XI T20 campaign so far.... how does that develop a young lad? He top scored with 40 odd last week vs Derbyshire. It is worth noting as well in the other game vs Lancashire last week, Doneathy and Mackintosh both scored well. (31 & 40), with Doneathy taking 2 wickets also.

See how it goes I guess
