Mental that we’ve gone from being the biggest fish in league one to the . . .

Just looking down the list and was quite shocked at how there isnt many massive clubs in there. Sheff Utd, Birmingham, Coventry, WBA, Stoke, Cardiff, Blackburn etc all big clubs but certainly not huge ones like if Leeds or Everton were in there. Obviously Forest are massive if they lose Sunday.
I said that aswel, looking at the league and there is no stand out team/club. All much of a muchness.
Don't agree with this, arrogant posts like this doesn't help anyone.
He's just stating facta imo mate. Like i posted ither day, nothing ro be afraid of in this league. If we sign 4-5 players we should be in a shout of top 6.
How is it arrogant?

We had 5k more than sheffield united. That makes us the biggest club in the league. Its not arrogance. Its a fact
Why do our fans not like us thinking big and having ambitions?

Whilst a number of posters have realistic expectations I'm afraid that too many seem to be getting carried away and even border on a sense of entitlement (leave that to those up the road).

The lesson from history is that the League One play-off winners do not do well in The Championship the next season after promotion.

In the 17 seasons since The Championship came into being in 2004/05 (via re-branding), the performance of the League One play-off winners is nothing short of abysmal.

Some headlines:

  • 3 out of the last 4 clubs have been relegated.
  • 14 times in the last 17 seasons the club has finished in the bottom half of the 24 teams.
  • The average finishing position is 18th of the 24 teams.
  • Only twice has a team finished in the top 10 out of the 24 teams (Millwall both times - 8th in 17/18 and 9th in 10/11).

For those interested, the finishing position the season after promotion is as follows (24 teams in the division each season). Starting with the most recent first: -

16th, 22nd, 22nd, 22nd, 8th, 14th, 11th, 21st, 24th, 19th, 18th, 9th, 20th, 14th, 19th, 20th and 19th.

I think most supporters acknowledge that the gap between the Championship and the Premier League is massive. However, I think many supporters underestimate the jump between League One and The Championship, especially entering it as the play-off winners.

The biggest clubs in the whole of English football are Manchester City and Liverpool. After that who cares.

Big Club? Just a pointless discussion. What does it mean. Unless you’re winning the league or champions league you’re completely insignificant to the whole of mankind unless you support them or for the 90 minutes the team you support are playing them.

Give it a rest man, he basically said our attendances will be the biggest, now you want to beat him up about it.

Where do you pluck £5million from? I dont give a shit how much we spend, look at Boro last season £11 million, that went well (it would be funny as fuck if they got done for FFP or whatever it is in this league after Gibson going after Derby)

They will probably sell a few players, might keep them going, I wonder if their new owners were advised by our dynamic duo?

They need to repay £65m of their loan from MSD, as a result of being relegated. That's the parachute for this season gone. And the proceeds from the sale of Chris Wood will go to repay another, because they've been assigned. They have an ageing squad, and few have a high sales value.

Good news, only Norwich and Watford with coin to spend then, unless West Brom have another go, and maybe Gibson wants to hoy some more money at it

Its human nature to be proud of your tribe!I remember when i was a nipper i picked up an an i spy book on football and was looking down the list of 1st division winners .i can still remember the feeling of pride in the fact that my club Sunderland had won the first division six times.
The only thing great about our club at the moment is its fans and im proud of every one of them!

I agree, we should be aiming for promotion. No reason other than a lack of ambition to do so. Realistically a top half finish would be good but absolutely no reason in the world for us to go into the season not aiming to be a top team.

Last point, it's because some fans are scared that we'll sound too much like Mags. They were the same the last few seasons in the f***ing third division.

Biggest fish in the Championship.

Maybe not in terms of playing staff but in terms of literally everything else.

Home support will be thousands more than anyone else.

Away support will be the highest in the league comfortably.

Away clubs will come to the SoL and be desperate to win given the numbers.

The battle to get back to the Premier League won’t get any easier.

This isn’t any sort of entitlement post, just facts 😂😂

BRING IT ON. HAWAY THE LADS
Still by far biggest fish simple as

I disagree.
I don't understand the hype about Forest at all. They had a period of great success, but I wouldn't call them a massive club. More like a big Championship club.

To be fair , that includes clubs like Yeovil , Millwall, Rotherham, Scunthorpe and Wycombe It is rare that a club wins the League 1 play offs that has 30,000 support and the finances that generates.
How did Man City get on after they won the play offs ? That is the only equivalent really .

And for the record, I think we will finish 8th to 12th at the moment.
Top 5 the usual suspects Norwich, Watford Burnley plus Sheff Utd and WBA. After that who knows ?
