I’m sure in a parallel universe somewhere, Reid signed the right Milton Nunez with him and Phillips banging in over 30 each as The Lads were crowned champions of England for a 7th time 😎
I like this idea. And it’s not as far fetched as it sounds. Those are the margins sometimes in football. I’m hoping getting in Alex Neil might be the sliding doors moment we need to kick on to success.

I would honestly say our support is more resolute now, we regularly averaged 25-27k before Keane took over and that was a division higher. The supporters are more resolute now and have a "fuck you, we are Sunderland mentality".
I can safely tell you that for midweek games both my nephews have gone down to these places and I suspect it was more for the crack and token pork pies on the bus or perhaps the going into school the next day later than normal. Who knows 😏, 🤷‍♂️

Loads given out to the schools when Murray was trying to compete with the Mags, more so after the 7th placed finishes.

they were never free. discounted but not free. we got cheap school tickets for our first visit to the sol against port vale in 97/98 and again a few weeks later against reading. we ended up going to a few more that season and then got a season ticket that summer and still have one now. no doubt others have ended up doing the same over the years

Weeks after pompey though wasn't it? Most working class folk can't afford two trips to the capital in a short period
I’m working class & did both
We have unbelievable support however theres a fair few bandwagon jumpers that always take the piss
Where we’re these when we dropped into the championship?
we went from average crowds of 42000 to 27000

There’s a fair few come out the woodwork for this one
Went to both the last trips , Portsmouth & Charlton
We never sold out for Charlton
There’s plenty reason we didn’t sell out charlton, I went to both and spent over 2k in a month on apprentice kind of wages, after losing in the cup and dipping out on automatics after consecutive poor performances. Anyone using that charlton game/attendance in detriment to our club or support want their heed rattling

No surprise tbf

This keeps getting mentioned not selling out Charlton ffs folk spent enough beforehand
The true support was there
As always

It’s amazing
Folk always find the money when it suits them
Not surprised there were people who couldn’t fork out the £200-£500 2 months later
Nowhere near that don’t be daft
By the way I done it

As most clubs would pal. If you done both your probably in a better financial position than most. I done none of those 2 like. Of course people who don't always go will want to go to our biggest game, it's the divs who never go that do my head in, so they can put it on MySpace n shit

I found the money and I had none, I’ve got my ticket next week too and still have nowt. This time things feel positive for the first time in years fortunately. Hopefully they carry on after Saturday!

My space, christ on a bike 😆

Will our ticket sales be the largest attendance by a single team for a competitive match (other than International games)? Presumably more often than not the split will be close to 50/50?

Portsmouth >50k is the record atm -

So doubt it.

What is mind blowing is how we have ended up in the third tier .
There are at least 8 clubs currently in the Premier League who if they rapidly descended to our level would attract similar if not bigger crowds.

I am struggling to think of them
City didnt
Leeds didnt
Villa wouldnt.

I am not sure the London clubs would , without the benefit of tourists to watch Chelsea v Morecambe or Spurs v Exeter.
Perhaps Arsenal, but for 4 years, no.

Everton have had mid 30s in the Prem , so they wouldnt.
Mags with a double relegation then 4 years in league 1 , doubtful but maybe.

Liverpool, Man Utd maybe.
I cant think who your 8 are. I think 3 .

The highest kevel to me is the top flight, it goes without saying we would sell out if we were in the Champions league, we can average 31000 in the third tier but we ain't going to be in the champions league anytime soon.
Well the initial point that was made about the top level was clearly referring to the champions league. You missed that.

We sold out regularly when finishing 7th in the premier league.

The stadium would need extending if we competed in the champions league. It's an obvious fact .

Both trips cost me closer to 500 than 200, how can you get return travel from Sunderland to London, a Wembley ticket and even just some food and drink for less than £200? Add in the cheapest stop over for most people who don’t drive?

How much is it costing you?
