We do have our own. On the way back from Celtic pre season, a family got on Hexhamish with the little lad wearing a Newcastle shirt. They were off to pay their respects to Bobby Robson at the ground (must have been open late that night for it) and obviously hadn't banked on a few thousand SAFC fans coming back that way. A bunch of lads gave them some stick, me and my mate told them to behave themselves and apologised to the Mother. We very nearly ended-up in a fight with the Sunderland lads over it.
Good on you mate, I was at that Celtic match too. Whole away end was singing for Bobby Robson. Stark difference to now pissing on Stokoes statue.
 


I just don’t get it, both Amble and Alnwick are 30+ miles away from NE1. Why the heck should they care if someone is from 30 or 40 miles away?

I guess growing up in the East Mids we were surrounded by League football clubs in comparison to the North East but it’s no excuse.

I’d understand getting agro if I rocked up in Mansfield wearing a Chesterfield shirt but there is still genuine deep rooted hatred amongst families, let alone rival football fans, over the miners’ strike in ‘84.

If they had done serious damage and not held back I would agree they would or should have been looking at lengthy jail terms.

Fair enough, when you're happy with mass beheading, stonings, and paedophilia - a gash across the face and a guy being kicked while on the ground must seem like pure handbags.

The example that was set was that you get one free 'beating someone up' as long as a) you've never been caught before b) 'have a job' and c) have mates that will write saying how splendid you are. I'd question whether it was held in the correct court for something like this.

I don't think it's a case of backing anyone up. They gave a man a kicking and also his wife got a little bit for trying to protect him.
It also seems those blokes were full of drink and I suspect so what the bloke who got a kicking.
What really sparked it all off is up for debate and nobody but them may know.

I'd hazard a guess it came down to one man standing his ground against a bit of a teet for tat to start with until a bit of a gang mentality ensued.

Clearly the 4 men for setting about the one bloke, regardless of his postcode or footballing/sporting allegiance.

I think the punishment was fair in this instance if the write-up is close to accurate.

It may seem soft but to me, it's a massive lesson learned for those, and also they not only have to stay out of trouble in any form for 2 years but any violence in or after that time will not be taken lightly, so they also have that hanging over them.

Top that off with unpaid work and compensation and I'd say fair enough and that's a genuine unbiased opinion.

I've never had a problem in 20 years. Mind I don't drink in pubs like The Strawberry where the clientele have 12 fingers and one eye in the middle of their forehead. But have many a time openly talked about football, including with treacherous barcodes from Sunderland.

Majority of Washington mags I know don't even go to their games. As plastic as it comes. Most of them showed no/minimal interest in football between the Pardew intertoto certificate days until this season....

One of the nurses I used to work with is a mackem, she had mates in London where she used to work.

This was probably more through luck.
If you and your gang are kicking someone on the floor, your INTENT is to cause serious harm.

So fine if no record, OK, what if he had 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30,31,32,33,34,35,36,37 previous convictions and had admitted guilt to a hate crime?
