Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

What about the Labour shadow minister who took hundreds of thousands of pounds from a Chinese govt agent?

The reality is that all politicians move in circles of connected and - yes - rich people. It’s part of their job.

What is definitely growing tiresome is the idea that our politics or govt is in any meaningful way “corrupt”. It’s an insult to the billions of people who live under actual corrupt governments.
I have family members who live in Britain after having escaped repressive regimes. It's precisley because of that experience that they are very concerned with the actions of our government. They know that corruption is corruption and it only goes one way. Ditto closing down protest rights and restricting the terms of democracy etc. These things have *never* strengthened democracy and free societies, they are always part of its strangulation. As are people who look the other way when it happens because it dosent result in overnight fascism.

It’s a moot question, because I don’t believe Russia would ever launch a nuclear attack.

However to walk through the logic underpinning the question anyway - if we do assume that Russia would do that, then it’s coming regardless whether it’s tomorrow or a year or two from now.

In either scenario, we should still be doing the right thing,

Moot question purely because you don't believe something?

Accepted Russian military doctrine would say otherwise.

He couldn’t be more right.

Western cowardice gave the green light to this invasion, and will ultimately lead to its success. It will then lead to the next of Putin’s projects, and so on and so forth.

Putin said last week that there would be grave consequences for anyone sending weapons which can be used to kill Russian soldiers. Still no sign of this supposedly terrible retribution.

Strongly disagree with this mind, it's something that they just cannot implement with the consequence of such action being unimaginable.

As someone else said, either continue to resist with Western support in the form of weapons, or unfortunately surrender. Clip today of 18 years old being sent to the front after 3 days training, sickening series of events all around.

I explained why even if wasn’t moot, why it would still be for us to do the right thing,

(and yes it’s moot given my opinion, as it’s me you directed the question to).

Exactly. The message is clear - we are shit scared of you and when it comes down to it, we will do a lot of talking but ultimately stand aside for you.

Great message to be sending to someone like him.
Utter rubbish. No-one is shit scared of Putin, NATO and it’s allies are trying to keep the conflict contained, trying to stop this escalating to WW3. It’s not fear.
Fear makes you invade a sovereign state.
If Putin attacked a NATO country, or it’s assets, you would see a different response.

What a sad caricature m of this country you’ve managed to paint on to the inside of your head. Your comrades would be proud.

That's kind of reverse whatabboutery.

1. Gobshite rent a gob newcastle MP vs genuinely in the pocket Govt + PM.
2. Newcastle MP doesn't influence national UK security.
3. No link of Saudi to brexit as far as we know.
4. Saudis never directly attacked UK as far as we know. No Novichok or polonium.
5. Saudis haven't invaded anyone.
6. Saudis haven't just put their nuke fleet on alert. In fact they haven't got nukes.
7. Bombs falling on Yemen might well be British. One's falling on Ukraine certainly are not.
I was just making the point all politicians have an agenda, bugger the lot of them!

It all seems sadly incredibly futile.

The sad reality is we have enabled a World to evolve where a few individuals have the ability to become the arbitrator of human existence. That may sound dramatic but it’s essentially true. The World is now at the whims of Putin’s grand plan and his mental state.

If he is willing and wants to use his nuclear weapons then what we know of Putin is he will manufacture a reason to do so.

If he doesn’t then it seems highly unlikely That any Western response is going to compel him to do so unless it’s a direct or existential to him personally or Russia.

I think sadly at this point the West’s actions aren’t going to make much difference. I’m sure what he wants to do is already played out in his head known only to him and if it is worse case then we are relying on his inner circle and the Russian checks and balances as opposed to anything the West can necessarily do.

Talk about from one frying pan into another. Escaping a repressive regime and ending up in a country such as this one must be extremely traumatic.
