Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

I'd rather not have ww3 to be honest. Russia alone lost more than 20 million people, we lost 500,000.
I'd rather there was a diplomatic solution before it gets to that point.

You and me and everyone else. If there is a diplomatic solution which means Ukraine is an independent sovereign nation with its borders intact then great.

Conceding land to an invasion is not a solution. In five years time they invade again, so we let them have more land. How far do we keep letting them go with diplomatic solutions…through Europe to Germany?

No one wants WW3. But if we have to have WW3 to defeat Putin and tyranny in defence of the free world, then we have to have WW3.

The way I see it is this ..(all my opinions)...Vladimir Putin believes Russia are superior to the other countries. By invading Ukraine he has forced himself into a dilemma with only 2 options

Option 1 ) try the diplomatic route with Ukraine without more bloodshed but by doing this it makes him look weak .... And more likely the British /Americans will hit his country in the pocket so much. His country will be a social pariah after the war has ended, and his country plunges into poverty ....in other words Russia changes from the bully to the bullied....Why would Putin possibly want that. He does not want others dictating to him

Option 2) power crazed dictator Putin carries on the offensive and will carry on attacking countries until other countries combine to defeat him but even then he won't wave the white flag

I think option 2 is far more likely than option 1 .....

He is the modern day Hitler that our prime ministers and other leaders were happy to have dinner with at summits

When you have a leader that is frightened of nothing and is incredibly stubborn you have an extremely dangerous man

I must say it's so heartwarming to see all of the people giving donations of everything (including medical supplies via the NHS etc) on the north east news there and countrywide.
Decent people who care and are doing all they can. The bairns school is doing a fundraiser and are asking for toothbrushes and toothpaste for his year group so I'm off to savers soon to buy a few packs of each.
I truly pray this can be brought to a swift and peaceful end, the Ukraine need our support whatever happens and I hope they know we care about their plight.

One of our neighbours is Polish and organising a collection. Just took a couple of bin liners of towels, blankets, clothes and toiletries over for them.

I wouldnt concede land either. Putin knows his army is not big enough to occupy the Ukrain even if he wins the war. The invasion of Iraq showed that it would be years of insurgency resulting in more loss of life than the conflict.

Yes I'd definitely say the people of this country would rally round and help as much as they could.
We're already seeing groups collecting food and other needs to send over. I've got three spare bedrooms my kids have left home and it's only me and the Mrs rattling around the house. So I'd be happy to put a family up if we were being asked. There's a few comments on this thread bashing our country but I just dismiss them as bitter bollocks. When it came to the crunch the people of this country would pitch in. I'm certain of that.
I agree, the criticism is being levelled at our Govt not the general population.

Your getting your options 1,2,a,b mixed up there pal

On WW3: if that is the price of defending the free world then so be it. It took WW2 to stop Hitler. It might take WW3 to stop Putin. I would rather live in WW3 than in a World that succumbs to tyranny without a fight.

On nuclear weapons: I do not believe he will use them. His focus is on rebuilding the Russian Empire, not ending it in a nuclear war. It’s posturing.
No offence but thank God you're not in charge of any NATO country.

I agree though did you see the video of the attack? They were firing from the street towards the training building and behind that seems to be just waste land. Aye it's certainly still a danger in some way but it's being sensationalised with the words "attack on Nuclear Plant" for obvious reasons but then it causes people to see the attention grabbing headlines and causes a bit more concern that it should.

My post was to show that thankfully it wasn't as bad as the MSM or people on Tw@tter etc are making out and more to do with taking control of the plant, rather than destroy it so people reading here don't worry as much about it today.

This was the overhead image and the Russians were above the yellow pin in the middle of blue rectangle firing to where the fire was. It has been confirmed that 2 security personel were injured so maybe the security team took cover from the security gate on the road into the building.

The other thing of course is you don’t need to hit a reactor to blow one. Taking out the control system of the cooling water would potentially send the reactor critical without intervention to rectify and or close down the reactor.
