Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

The Chinese have pulled all coverage of the premier league this weekend due to the fact all clubs have planned a show of solidarity such as Ukraine flags as arm bands, billboard, flags etc. This tells us all we need to know about where they stand now.

Every fan should wear yellow or blue

I’m well aware of that aye but it’s more the fact that the decision has been taken in the first place.
Yeah - I posted above that it surely it would have to be all sports, as there will be shows of support at all "gatherings"
What do they say?
Not been discussed. Apart from a few sites that we have to take action on in Russia/Ukraine, no one in work is discussing it any country. Its quite surreal really - everything carrying on as normal

Be interesting to see if they come down heavy on any para Olympians for showing support.

Poo tin - "I think everyone must think about how to normalise relations, co-operate normally and develop relations normally," he adds.

Just finished his bender and the fears kicked in.
Pootin - "tell you what Sergei, that was some few days off comrade, can't remember a bloody thing. Told you we shouldn't have been doing shots"
Lavrov - "erm, about that Vlad. Shots might not be the best term of phrase this morning. Oh, and I've hidden the nuclear briefcase, you were a bit f***ing mad for it at the weekend pal"

I think we as people need to look at boycotting Chinese products; it’s easier said that done but the governments won’t do anything against China so it’s up to us consumers

That Fiona Hill interview is excellent and well worth reading. Her background is everything relevant for this. Shes a doctor in Russian history. Has been US advisor on Russia under various Presidents including Trump and had been in the room with Putin during presidential discussions.

Learnt far more in 15 minutes reading that then any of the other things knocking around. She talks about his motivations, personality and what he might do next.

It’s not overly dramatic but alarming

FFS

just posted it
I see it's had over 11 million views in just less than a week so nee harm posting it again as people should watch it. It's certainly an eye opener and explained in simple enough terms or a boring watch with just someone droning on.
What would happen if Russia blew the nuclear station up?

Excuse my lack of knowledge?
I don't think it wouldn't happen but I see Sky News now showing the video of the flares landing in the car park which due to lens flare of the CCTV camera make it look far bigger than it was. In fact, 3 separate times now it's been shown within 15 mins since 12pm and the BBC also repeating it. They've just shown the flares again with headline Nuclear Plant Attack!

Even the video that shows the shots firing at the building with the tracers makes the ammunition look bigger than it was as it's not tanks firing huge shells at the place. This along with the "Attack on Nuclear plant" and "Nuclear Plant Shelled" and "Nuclear Terror" headlines are a bit OTT.

I hope you aren't too worried or concerned about it that it's affecting you to come up with the question you did. Personally I was concerned a little initially late last night when I first saw it. After googling the plant and having a look about and reading posts on Tw@tter for updates, I got a better idea of what was going on so wasn't expecting another Chernobyl.

The way the MSM are reporting on it will be causing a lot of stress and concern when in reality it looks like it a small firing battle between the Russians and the security of the plant who retreated to the building from the security gate on the main road and there was 2 injuries but nobody was killed.

Read a couple of pages here from last night as there's been a lot of thread fluffer posts since then so people may have missed it as it's many pages ago now but it shows various videos etc.

Exactly, at the point he expands in to NATO territory then it would be world war 3. My point is that right now NATO countries are doing all they can while sticking to the contract between each other. The next move is by Putin and as we know it’s unpredictable.

The only question mark now is whether Moldova, Finland and Sweden join NATO. It is highly likely those countries will be next on any Russian expansion. Will they be able to join quick enough? For me it’s common sense to sort that ASAP.

But I don’t think it’s as clear cut as that. Why would there be WW3?

The West has already signalled to Putin what our red line is and it’s that we are terrified of a direct confrontation with Russia. We have had politicians, Stolenberg, leaders, all sorts coming out and falling over themselves making it quite clear we are horrified by the prospect. No no fly zone etc… because of the consequences.

That Fiona Hill article describes why he will be emboldened by that. NATO member or not we have given a clear message that the risks of that confrontation and the potential dire escalation it could create with nukes is too dangerous.

Neither of those change just because he goes into a bit of land called Estonia instead of Ukraine.

I don’t think he is scared of a conventional war with NATO because he quite likely never believes it will happen. He may well believe the message we have already sent will be repeated, the potential horrific consequences of an escalation by responding are too high.

So he may just call the West’s bluff and do it. We have seen through history that treaties, legal agreements etc… mean fuck all sometimes (They already have in Ukraine as this in itself has happened within 30 years of them being given to them)

She believes based on her understanding of his personality he will go further then Ukraine likely because he doesn’t think anyone will stop him when he is waving his nuke threat around, NATO or not.

Be honest, say any of us was a Ukranian holed up with your children in one of these cities being bombed. On the tv you see all these Nato people condemning things, wearing their blue and white trinkets, having loads of meeting, clapping and saying 'we are with you' but not doing anything that will actually help such as making a no fly zone or sending troops to help. Well, in all honesty, personally I'd be telling us all to get f@#ked.

You probably need to consider amongst all of that the millions of dollars that have been sent in humanitarian aid, military supplies and intelligence for the Ukrainian cause and what is being done by NATO nations to house, cloth and feed people looking to flee to safety too.

Anyone been on here? f***ing mad.

I like this one:

Or the on about retailers:

Several of the world's largest retailers, including IKEA, Mango, H&M Group, suspended operating in Russia at the same time. This may result in major losses for the retail chains and the closing of 40-50% of stores for shopping centers. Proprietors will aspire to find new tenants among Russian, Chinese and Turkish retailers but this is unlikely to happen immediately.

Just heard on the news there dockers in a UK port (didn't catch which one) have refused to unload a ship full of Russian gas so it had to be diverted to another port. Good on them.
Article from yesterday if anyone wants more info on this. I think @Mackem Mad shared it last night earlier in thread.

If Russia ignores international agreements why shouldn't Ukraine.
Fuck Putin and do him some more Financial damage!
They want to stay friendly with the EU who have made themselves dependent upon Russian gas. I'd not be surprised if the supply of equipment and supplies contained a caveat that they do not sabotage the gas supply network.
