If you think that the Met Police are bastards, be thankful your children don’t live in Moscow! Arrested for laying flowers at the Ukrainian embassy and holding “no to war” signs. Welcome to USSR 2: Electric Boogaloo

I was too late! Great minds think alike.

Just googled her age . 4 years older than me but we would have been at Barrington the same time.. trying to think the age of my older brother.. think he would have been couple years ahead of her
I messaged her a couple of years after the first impeachment, I got her email address through NBC news.
The only item I'll share is she's football neutral, wants to see all the north east clubs do well, very diplomatic response

I agree the window for action was well and truly missed, I think we didn't think in a million years he would go after the whole Ukraine.

The only thing we can do is with UN support declare a no fly zone area to help the population leave, we have done that in the past and so long as we are a "defence only" stance it could work, I dont think Putin would be allowed to fire nukes even if he wanted too.
Don’t even think we will do that now. I’d be utterly amazed if NATO decide to do it. Thinking about the end game of this and its Very hard to see anything other than Putin eventually getting exactly what he wants.

in that case lets get stuck in and risk it

I think one of the concerns with the approach is if it ultimately leads to war anyway through the stringent sanctions against Russia and support Ukraine has been given. Does it breed anti-west rhetoric and ultimately lead to an East v West war?

The benefit will be it gives us time for things to hopefully resolve themselves however it could equally give the east time to build up their munitions further in preparation for a larger war.
I’m sorry to come across as really negative but I just really don’t see anyone intervening now. I also don’t see this war spreading any further than Ukraine. I think they’ll end up taking it fairly easily but not being able to handle it once they’re in charge. The place will be fucked either way.

20k plus refugees in CZ already, plenty of places set up for accomodation and medical assistance - they've been given visa free access to the labour market and free public transport aswell as long as they have valid ID. The response by the public has been excellent with loads of collection points for clothes, cosmetics and mecicines

Declaring a no fly zone is akin to declaring war. Even if only accidental there’ll be a NATO or Russian casualty, and that will be that.
Exactly. It would end in disaster. Look at the last time it kicked off there and that MH17 went down. Like you say someone would fuck up and off we go.

Putin eventually getting exactly what he wants.
But what does he want? He can seize the territory of Ukraine, but there are 45 million people living there, the vast majority of them hate him, and everything he stands for. How do you control them?, the country is bigger than France. there would be massive civil unrest, resulting in mass casualties on both sides resulting in international sanctions being maintained. Russian economy would collapse, mass demonstrations etc., eventually Putin would be overthrown.

I don’t disagree. Debate is more if we’ve come too far now that it will untimely lead to a war in the next year or ten year? Is it inevitable now. I don’t think any of us can predict it but hope to hell that it doesn’t, however as you say that likely means Ukraine falling under the control of Russia and Russia not wanting retribution of the wests sanctions.

I said this she’s about and got pelters. There’s only one sensible outcome, putin gets what he wants and then suffers from sanctions. An awful lot of this death and destruction could have been avoided by Ukraine not fighting back. I understand why they have but for me personally, you’ve got to question if the Ukraine gov really do have their citizens best interests at heart.

It was only a few weeks a go there Ukraine president was reported in a CNN article asking western leaders to stop the invasion rhetoric as Ukraine has been living with the putin threat for years and nothing is likely to happen.

Why should they not fight back though? If a hostile power wanted to invade the UK, would you advocate letting them? Would you not fight back if someone wanted to subjugate you and your family to their rule?

There seems to be this current of avoiding loss of life at all costs, but if we had followed that doctrine during the 1930s, we would be speaking German now.

After Ukraine what next? Where does Putin stop if Ukraine roll over. Georgia? Moldova? Finland?

Surely we cannot appease dictators like this.

Does the little fat balding chod even have an end game where he can claim victory? He wants more territory. Okay. He takes over Ukraine. (making hard work of it). He's then got to hold it. That's going to cost. A lot. And in the grand scale of things they are a dwarf economically compared to the big hitters. It is also an undeveloped country, as a whole and by comparison. His daft threats of nukes won't wash either, as if. So I can't see how he can win tbh.
