Well that was fair few pages of waffle to get through while it reverted back to it was like in the Politics forum. I might as well post this as obviously shit is still going on in Ukraine but thankfully there doesn't seem to have been any fresh updates from this morning that has been further bad news for Ukrainians from what I've seen. It isn't on wiki any more though in case someone goes looking.

Couldn't that subject for example be in its own thread in the Politics forum and people can go to town on each other in there without filling this thread with tit for tat? Some posters on here just like to say what they want, when they want and treat this thread as a big soap box but I just skip through it now and will only make this one comment also.

Today Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has warned that a third world war 'will be nuclear and destructive'.

Really pathetic and weak looking posturing by what is some old men in the Kremlin. Everything is turning to shit and the war with Ukraine isn't even a week old as they ratchet up the language out of pure desperation.

This isn't the Russia of the mid 1940's that looked like an unstoppable steamroller but a nation with a falling population with an economy the size of Spain with scrawny inept soldiers. Talking big has all they have left as in a conventional war NATO would be knocking on Moscow's door within a fortnight.

How ever Putin thinks he’s going to rule over Ukraine is beyond me. Even if it’s by a proxy puppet dictator it will be impossible. The Ukrainian people and the west simply won’t allow it

I grew up with these scary ideas of the 4 min warning, was talked about in school more than once.

We shouldnt Nuke them, but we could have rattled our sabre at the start of the build up, reminding Putin that we give Ukraine assurances of protection etc, maybe could have cooled his heals before he invaded.

I honestly can’t see what we can do Other than what is being done. Let’s be honest here it’s either stand up to the bully, be honourable and probably have our whole population annihilated or make life as difficult as we can for Russia.

Were not going to war with Russia and neither are American so we’re gonna have to sit back and watch this shit unfold.

i do enjoy reading the politics of the war and have very strong views, its interesting reading, just dont like when it turns it to a mud slinging match between posters.

I agree the window for action was well and truly missed, I think we didn't think in a million years he would go after the whole Ukraine.

The only thing we can do is with UN support declare a no fly zone area to help the population leave, we have done that in the past and so long as we are a "defence only" stance it could work, I dont think Putin would be allowed to fire nukes even if he wanted too.

The Germans did not invade Russian territory on June 22 1941 as the bloke on sky said they did. They invaded Poland and Lithuania. End of July was when Germans first stepped onto real Russian land.

I’m not, and never will, dispute their losses. I’m disputing peoples version of events around Barbarassa basically. It’s a nonsense that the Russians get away with. They invaded Poland and the Baltic states, it wasn’t their land.

Sure, at the time the vast, vast majority of people of Poland and the Baltics might have thought their saviors from the west had arrived - but the same really could'nt be said for what is now Belarus or Ukraine

I think one of the concerns with the approach is if it ultimately leads to war anyway through the stringent sanctions against Russia and support Ukraine has been given. Does it breed anti-west rhetoric and ultimately lead to an East v West war?

The benefit will be it gives us time for things to hopefully resolve themselves however it could equally give the east time to build up their munitions further in preparation for a larger war.

I'd bet a lot of money there are numerous other RAF and USAF aircraft loitering over Romania and Poland with their transponders off. For example, there are not zero B-52s on station in Eastern Europe right now.

But that kind of plane isn't going to fly over Ukraine itself unless it's going into actual combat. The risk is too great: think about what happens if either side intentionally (or accidentally) shoots down an American B-52 over Ukraine right now.

Absolutely, the was a Typhoon that returned with the Voyager the other day, which started broadcasting once they were over the North Sea. I would bet they are pretty close to the Polish Border, policing NATO airspace in case a Russian gets lost, upon which they can politely wave said Russian in the right direction ( ).
