Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

im with you on that, its possible that everyone having a cameraphone and posting it all over the place might be a new kind of a 'fog of war'. im surprised that russia havent closed down the IT infra that allows ordinary videos to get out to the west, its almost like they want people to think they're doing shite... who knows.

They have no means of being able to do that. There is no ‘hidden message’ or conspiracy in the very real videos that are being shared.

Time will tell. I assumed they would have been in Kiev with days. There was a battle for the airport on Day 2 and I assumed it would have been game over once they could fly troops etc in. That was repulsed fairly easily.

I have no idea what is going to happen but my heart goes out to those brave people in the country, I fear the worst and hope for the best.

I agree and like you I very much worry for the people of Ukraine. They are extremely brave people. I watched the Winter on Fire documentary on the 2014 issues and it brings home how proud they are and the lengths they’ll go to protect their nation and values.

I watched that with my daughter a few years back They were an inspiration.

Would take a completely incompetent lunatic to do something like that, Putin likes to portray the madman but he’s smarter than that I reckon.

Most countries would want a swift and quick invasion with minimal losses especially knowing sanctions will be coming there way, maybe he thought they’d be a walkover but I doubt he intentionally sacrificed people, I highly doubt he cares about the people he has lost and it more bothered about the expensive equipment he is losing.

That’s the thing he’s a clever but laser focus madman. I wonder if he was willing to test the waters first with the people of Ukraine as he would ultimately lose significantly more soldiers and military equipment when engaging in large scale warfare and when attempting to control the country. There is also the cost to rebuild the cities and infrastructure.

There was a reason that the thread was taken from the politics board. I didn't request he took his opinions elsewhere because I disagreed with him. However, that's the last I'll say on the matter.

This conflict/war/invasion (call it what you want) is inextricably linked to politics.

Whether you, I or anyone else likes that or not, it is completely unavoidable.

It’s like the people who whinge on when sport and politics mix, but then request Russia and Russian teams are banned from events.

Do what you want. I'll just stick you on ignore for a few days.

Because this is a thread about an existential crisis in Europe that is an excellent place to keep abreast of what is going on. I'll stick you on ignore too as I don't want to post about it anymore.
Cool yer jets man Harry, just scroll past the stuff you don’t want to read. What might not be a valid contribution for you might be for others.✌️😘

Probably already been said but its the IPC, IPC have actually been pretty decent I think, which is a huge shock.
Autocorrect has made me look a fool, IOC have been pretty decent IPC have acted disgraceful.

Was a gentleman on 5live earlier who said at the under 20s fencing championship yesterday most countries who came against a Russian just walked off to the point that Russia quit the games, hopefully something similar can happen if the IPC don't change their stance.

It doesn't matter you aren't getting it.

Nope, the exact opposite regardless of age will not support the regime or the war. The regime has been losing support for a number of years now, it was reasonably popular but as time has gone on, from what I understand, the greed of the regime is now getting on peoples tits.

Regarding age, older people in Russia are capable of using new fangled electronic equipment you know, this isn’t some third world backward country we’re talking about when it comes to western Russia.
I’m not saying that. I have family in their 80s that are tech savvy. The Russian people are no less capable than us. I know people who live and work in the area and that’s what they’ve told me. It has been backed up by some of the interviews on tv. I respect this is a small demographic mind.
