They really are being fed some terrible propaganda though. I watched RT yesterday which I'm sure is only a 1/10th as bad as actual Russian state media and it was just pure anti-West/EU/NATO. And pushing stories about genocide in Donbass. Including a piece with some madcap US conspiracy dude fighting with Donbass region rebels.
When recent US and UK Governments and their supporters have railed against independent media, threatening journalists, threatening withdrawing funding, calling journalists scum then it empowers regimes like Putin’s to flat out lie.

There’s a difference between strategic ICBM nuclear weapons and tactical battlefield nuclear arms. Putin may be prepared to use the latter if he’s in a corner.
He won't need to be in a corner for that, the NATO plan during the cold war if West Germany was invaded was to slow the Soviet advance and funnel them into the Fulda Gap and then use tactical nuclear weapons to destroy them.

You can’t hide facts from a whole generation of tech savvy teenagers and young adults now. The Russian heirachy are living in the past when you could. The only way to achieve a blackout now is go full on “North Korea” style and the highly westernised population are simply not going to stand for that

This will be completely counter productive for them. They will be wanting to find out why there’s a blackout now. The younger generation are very tech savvy and I’ve no doubt they will find out
A lot of them know already. They still had access to HLTV on Sunday morning so they had 3 days on that forum. Full of other European kids that don’t hold back. Might sound silly but iirc 2/3 million Russian kids access that site at least once a day. You then also have all the pro e-sports teams that are now banned from tournaments, some of them have millions of young fans.

The anger will be suppressed but eventually will reach a tipping point. Taking the online games away from stroppy teenagers is a bad move.

Think a lot of folk are overestimating Russias ability to control media from the west and underestimating the Russian population of understanding what’s happening. Simple evidence of this is the protests that have happened in Russia. I hate to burst the bubble for some but Russia isn’t like NK, western Russia especially.

The young Russians have disappeared offline now. None of the large gaming sites has any Russian traffic. None playing in European servers. Gone full black out…

One of the first sure signs they are trying to completely stop info coming in from the outside world.
interesting, my first thought was how much info is being sent via online games, its how my son keeps in touch with his friends world wide.

Depends on your age. A lot of older folk rely on state media but I suppose what you’re saying is a lot of people don’t really care about the controversy of this invasion and will support the regime regardless?
