Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

How large is support for him mate? Genuine question. Obviously he has support in the SE but I’ve seen little so far of it anywhere else. Admittedly all I’ve seen are personal vids etc on YT and the like so far.
I've no idea how much support there is for Putin, people conflate the regional and ethnic ties to Russia as if they support him. Going from election results the people seem happy to be Ukrainian, the politicians they supported ran on a united Ukraine ticket.

So again, what if Putin, Medaved and Lavrov start saying the sanctions are an act of war, what if they say the defensive weapons are an act of war, what if they say that having nukes in Europe is an act of war?

There will be nothing to stop Russia continuing to escalate and threaten if they don’t get 100% what they want. Which we are not going to give them. So sooner or later we have to make a choice to relent and just accept it or run the risk of an escalation
Doesn't really matter what they say, it's meaningless words....
If Russia attack a NATO country they will retaliate and if they don't there will be no direct NATO action.

More talks planned for tomorrow between Ukraine and Russian officials, can’t see an agreement unfortunately.

What would it take for Russia to stop and would that be accepted by Ukraine?
The fact there’s a second round so soon is encouraging. If there was no common ground in the first round then a second lot wouldn’t have been arranged so quickly.

Thank fuck it isn’t Trump’s call or he would have been bombing Ukraine to soften them up for Vlad to march in.

Is this the same Trump who was constantly putting pressure on other NATO members to increase their defence spending (which Germany have just done) and warning against European reliance on Russian gas? The same Trump who reportedly told Putin he'd bomb Moscow if Russia attacked Ukraine?

There's a reason Putin held off attacking Ukraine until after Trump had left office, Trump was too unpredictable for Putin to risk this kind of move when he was POTUS. Putin probably took one look at how Biden handled the Afghanistan withdrawl and thought 'fuck it, now's the time'. Tbf to Biden I doubt he's in control of much but that's what happens when you elect somebody as obviously pathetic as him.

He must have had information that he’d get more support though surely. I really get the impression they thought they’d be seen as some type of liberation force. I mean, he’ll only know what he’s told end of the day.

It won’t be the first time a leader has been fed a spoon full of shit by terrified underlings and went with it, especially in Russia.

Very good point about the conflating issue tbf. We in the west are generally guilty of that a fair bit when it comes to that region and it’s different groups.

Terrifying and interesting at the same time. What times…

He didn’t at all, his words might have saved all of Europe being consigned to the history books for now, still however the politics forum would continue with arguments about brexit.
its all linked, thats the problem... its why you can't talk about this conflict without talking about the money in london or the number of bought tory mp's...

They might settle for a bigger chuck of the east which I reckon Ukraine would accept as long as it comes with a UN peace keeping buffer zone.

Fingers crossed.
Where’s that from?
Sky News

Course it bloody would man. Trump wouldn’t have done anything to stop it happening.

Wish you’d pack it in with this absolutely terrible crack. Nobody wants to hear it.

This is the same Trump who tried to blackmail Ukraine to give him information on Biden’s son, remember?

Why didn't Putin attack Ukraine between 2016 - 2020 when he had his "puppet" in charge of the US? Would have made things easier for him surely?

You did see that Trump was still pro Putin after the invasion started? He only changed his mind a few days in.

Because there are people out there who are actually going, no publicity, I know two, he didn't even know who he was joining, it's not difficult to just go and do it, do you honestly think he will go?

It's entirely plausible that Sky or whoever have had a team stationed in Holland Park waiting for the first civilian with no combat experience to turn up there to join the legion and then blag a story out of them tbh
