Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

This UN General Assembly emergency meeting is a diplomatic/political disaster for Russia.

Country after country after country - from every continent - queuing up to condemn them. Colombia just finished. Paraguay up now.

In these days whereby every company and institution thinks through the PR implications of anything they say or do you can only imagine that discipline has yet to reach The Kremlin.

Which is a big part of why you've seen the US letting everyone and everyone else do the talking. It's not a winning war of words if it comes from Washington.
agreed, It gives Putin too much to work with if America start using threats. why bother when you can use Europe as a mouthpiece.

@EretzIsrael: Terrible footage from Kharkiv of what appears to be an MLRS rocket strike in the center of the city. A government building. #Ukraine

Obviously not liberating the Western Ukrainians who hate his guts, they'd feel imprisoned if he were to control the whole country. But, it's not the whole country fighting against him, there's a sizeable chunk want to remain close to Russia. (That's not to suggest they support Putin, his regime or his actions here.)

Do you think it's a possibility that ultimately Ukraine will be carved up with Putin getting the East and pulling back before flattening Kyiv. He could potentially sell that as a victory of sorts.

Be interesting to see if he actually makes it to Ukraine. Things like this just make me think of people buying a homeless person a pasty and filming it. You don’t need the world to know you’re doing a good deed.
To be fair to him he seemed to have gone to the Ukrainian embassy of his own volition and was interviewed whilst there. I imagine the camera crew may have wanted more background to the story and did a follow up. Comes across as quite humble. My fear is people don't understand what a warzone is like.

People saying create a no fly zone and backing the press campaign, which it clearly is, must understand that’s basically inviting world war 3.

It’s inevitable that doing it, will result in nukes being fired.

As much as I’m not a fan of Bojo or the conservatives, I think what the UK Andover of the rest of the world has done with Russia is exactly what they should have, and is probably above and beyond if anything.

Stepping in and fighting, creating no fly zones etc. would do nothing but escalate the situation, if gives Putin the justification of nukes in the Ukraine, the NATO states, and that’s us all gone.

So again, what if Putin, Medaved and Lavrov start saying the sanctions are an act of war, what if they say the defensive weapons are an act of war, what if they say that having nukes in Europe is an act of war?

There will be nothing to stop Russia continuing to escalate and threaten if they don’t get 100% what they want. Which we are not going to give them. So sooner or later we have to make a choice to relent and just accept it or run the risk of an escalation

How large is support for him mate? Genuine question. Obviously he has support in the SE but I’ve seen little so far of it anywhere else. Admittedly all I’ve seen are personal vids etc on YT and the like so far.

More talks planned for tomorrow between Ukraine and Russian officials, can’t see an agreement unfortunately.

What would it take for Russia to stop and would that be accepted by Ukraine?
