It sounds callous but this is why the whole thing resonates. We can feel sorry for people in “war torn” Africa but we don’t identify with them. Some would say that is racist but it’s human nature. I feel like I would love to be Ukrainian. They seem such a fantastic set of people. (I’m sure they have their faults)

It's more difficult to use NATO military personnel under the guise of technical advisors when it comes to high tech equipment like that. The assumption will be Ukrainian pilots can't fly the jets, so NATO personnel will be directly involved in attacking Russian troops. It'd be another notch up in escalation if it happens.

In the Korean war that Russian pilots and jets flew in Chinese uniforms in planes with Chinese markings so as not to cause a huge diplomatic incident.

Could do similar here but the escalation if a plane gets shot down and the pilot ejects safely and captured by Russians is not worth the risk.

Yup I agree. As an aside, I'm really heartened to see our people being proactive in organising aid of all descriptions for the Ukrainian people too.
I walked my bairn up the road to his school bus this morning in the cold frosty sun. We both agreed how lucky we are to live in peace and that he's able to still go to school.
I can't imagine how hard it is for the folks in Ukraine, living through a hell they'd neither asked for or wanted, they're just like you and me FFS .

I didn't serve (annoyingly due to injury on selection board) but rtr were my sponsors and for a chally pretty sure I'm not far off. The more vehicles I guess the less support vehicles by virtue of orders of magnitude but that's not factoring in rolling out of a country as an invasion force.

I'm sure you could say that each tank needs the support of 4 support vehicles, but those 4 vehicles could also support other tanks.
support troop was no bigger than any other troop, in fact probably smaller as they were generally one person per wagon whereas the tanks had to have crew. chuck in a few more at the regimental level but that's it.

This really needs to be our wake up call, covid should have been but we basically pressed snooze. Germany getting around 50% of gas from a country like Russia shows how messed up the west are, they (and us to a degree) are indirectly funding the invasion we are so strongly against.

If we invest in green energy we could take on the debt and repay over x amount of years as then we'd actually be in control of the profits it creates and we'd have lower energy costs ourselves.
