I mean it's what the whole conflict is about.
I found this video below interesting which was posted by @Lonz yesterday but possibly got lost or missed by some.

I wasn't up to date on the history of Ukraine - Russia stuff starting from 2014 or any political stuff either. In fact I knew very little and no doubt others on here aren't clued up on everything so they may well find it informative as it's simple to follow. I don't know how much of this video is true, however it made me a little more aware of possible reasons all this shit from Russia has properly kicked off.

He’s used the country and his political positions in it since the fall of the Soviet Union to massively enrich himself personally at the expense of ordinary Russians and any sense of moral good.
He has, there’s no denying that, he’s also kept the largest and arguably the most diverse country on the planet together, in a fashion. Let’s be clear, I don’t like him (now), but a lot of people in Russia did like him, even though it’s pretty irrelevant to what’s happening now he has done some good. It’s nice to have a bit of balance when talking about people like this, very very few people are evil 100% of the time. I think it’s fascinating how one person can do so much good and bad.

Russia has no genuine reason to think NATO or the EU were planning on harming them, and the EU in itself has brought about a lasting peace and collaboration for the betterment of the continent.

Over forty years fighting a Cold War makes both sides paranoid. Despite progress at the end of it, the mistrust still runs deep with the old guard.
The sad thing about this is, I really do think the chance for peace has existed in the past decade, but Putin’s actions have put paid to that and set Europe and Russia back significantly.

when it first kicked off there was a picture and short video of 2 captured russians posted on here. one looked mid 20's and the other a teenager. that affected me more than i ever thought.
i'm not ashamed to say i wept and still wonder about their fate. even at the match at wigan on saturday it was always there in the back of my mind. it feels quite surreal. i remember the protect and survive campaign and all that carry on when i was younger but the present day seems more of a real threat.
i just hope these talks can stop more killing.
And to think just days before they were sat in their offices minding their businesses... (joke mate joke)!

I think it's more then okay to be impacted by what you are seeing, and I haven't been able to watch some all the way through. What is positive is seeing how people are coming together for a common cause. It's not often I would say this recently but I do think it shows a good British quality we can be proud of. We love an underdog.

The general world population has zero interest in war - let alone invading a foreign territory.

There’s currently no get out for Putin, he’s completely cornered from all sides. Even if he presses on and takes Ukraine it will be impossible to govern. His only option is fast becoming the nuclear one.

We therefore have to give him some kind of get out. I’m not saying we should back down in any way but we need to make him think he has some kind of victory no matter how hollow.

He’s finished anyway, he will either be killed or overthrown. He has zero chance of holding on to power.

Kept the largest and most diverse country together by what means?

I’ll give you a clue… by oppressing those with opposing views through using methods ranging from incarceration to murder.

Much good. Such leadership.

If he does what you suggest he weakens himself so much that he loses his power and that’s what he wants power.

He’s against a tough and determined enemy who won’t give up.

In theory he can’t win because the kids that have been sent off some will be back those that have lost families will be back.

He’s creating hate and resistance along the way.
I’m not suggesting that’s what he does mate, I’m saying I can’t see him accepting just the east, his actions don’t suggest that’s what he wants.

Agree though, he can’t win, as he said himself, there are no winners in this.
