Part of the problem is a lack of understanding others cultures, which leads to mistrust, then seems to always end up in conflict.

I get the feeling this could snowball into a defining moment, but it could go either way, backwards into another cold war and a period of them against us, or maybe with luck and being into the information age, a leap forward where this kind of aggression just isnt acceptable, i have been stunned by the response world wide, gives me hope that humans aren't quite the lost cause yet.

Not per say but there's been a few posts on here suggesting that they need democracy's imo but I don't agree. A country can have whatever political system they like as long as they don't affect international law even if it's not best for them. It's not us for to judge or get involved imo.

Plenty of films where the bad guy is actually a posh Englishman. Usually the same film where the Yanks save the f*cking world but not before the ‘black guy dies first’.

Fifa in 'advanced talks' over suspending Russia​

Fifa is in advanced talks over the full suspension of Russia until further notice, according to BBC sports editor Dan Roan.
The global football governing body is understood to be working closely with its European counterpart Uefa and an announcement is expected later today.
It would mean Russia would not be able to play at the women's Euro 2022 in England in the summer and Poland will get a bye in the World Cup qualifier play-off next month - a match that Poland's FA has said it will boycott.
Iceland has also said it will refuse to play against Russia in June, and the International Olympic Committee has recommended that athletes from Russia and Belarus be banned from competitions.

I guess that’s due to an almost 60 year cold war where Russia was the baddie and pretty much all foreign policy, international reporting in the media, and all our spying was based on that notion.

It will take a generation or two of post-1990 born film writers to move away from that lazy mindset. We are already seeing it now in spy and thriller books where most baddies are Islamic.

Unfortunately, Putin has turned the clock back and making Russia appear like North Korea (he’s so ronery) so expect future action films and James Bond to have Russian baddies againz

This thread is 654 pages long man, there’s alsorts of stuff on it. Humour mixed with seriousness by way of posts, tweets, videos, all sorts of stuff. One thing is for sure though, it is all (as far as I’ve seen) relevant to the ongoing conflict.

I'm stopping too and it's probably because this is the most active thread in the Politics forum that posters can voice their opinions to many others who will be reading it regardless of topic. It's clear the attitude of the polically minded on this thread and it seems anything goes according to some like the poster you quoted. Like others I come here for updates and share stuff about what's going on in Ukraine and I'm not really interested in what someone thinks of a politician or the other crap that gets spouted.

I know the last SMB forum thread got merged but why not have still have one in there so the non politically minded can crack on getting relevant updates that people can share or read about? This conflict affects everyone, not just the politically minded yet the last 20 pages could probably be condensed into a few pages. I'd rather just get briefer updates on the latest stuff going on rather than wading through the not really relevant comment regarding people's political views that can descend into nothingness like we saw earlier. I'll take a break from this thread now anyway as I'm still hoping the current talks end up with something positive sometime soon and the fighting and deaths stop.

Thing is it’s the easiest PR goal they’ll ever have when the entire country would support it and they still manage to fuck it up.

At this stage you have to wonder just how much Russian donations are influencing their policies.

Even Alex Ovechkin, who might break the NHL all-time goals record, is a known Putin fanboy, and plays for the team in the capital of the United States, didn't manage to support Putin in this instance.

It's just a question of how far you want to punish Russians simply for being Russian. There have been calls for the NHL to suspend all its Russian players, which is a lot of guys - around 5% of the players.
