Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Unless the Tweet has the Blue Tick, I don't read it, the ticked ones I read with a large pinch of salt, I do think this thread should be used just for information and the petty squabbles should be taken to another Thread in Politics
Maybe I should start one with the title, Post all your off-topic opinions and tit for tat here!
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but it messes up the topic to have to wade through discussions that are not relevant.
There was one started in SMB forum and it was merged into this thread. Quite a few have said they come on here to get an update yet as you say sometimes you end up wading through the off topic comments or tit for tat.

The talks between Ukraine and Russia had ended yet there's very few comments on that and it's been swallowed within the last few pages. Just before that were videos allegedly showing Kharkiv being bombed to fuck but some on here think their personal political waffle is relevant to the topic of this thread

It's better than the other options
How the hell can you say that? I genuinely don’t get how someone sitting in the shithole that is the northeast of England can pass judgment on whose culture is better or worse than others.

This is the f***ing problem for me like, respect other cultures, don’t impose your beliefs on someone else in a way that where you think you’re better than them. That’s how wars start.

Live and let live

What system do you consider to be better than democracy?
Got any examples?

Sorry talks aren’t over. Appears just a break

Thanks for the update as I was concerned given the lengths of talks not being good news. I had suggested they may be coming back at a later time though I didn't think they'd just be taking a break.

The claims that over 4,000 Russian troops have perished don’t seem to be backed up with evidence on social media , is it just me that is thinking there’s more propaganda coming from both sides than usual ?
There are multiple ground and air attacks on cities with population circa 1M+, also urban warfare in these same cities.

The deaths on both sides will be well into the thousands by now - there are accounts from a doctor in Dnipro of hospitals running out of space for military dead from both sides (many hundreds).

To summarise; it'll be an unimaginable bloodbath (unless you've served in the forces).

I'm not a religious man but have spent many hours considering fate of the poor souls cowering in basements or foxholes.

I just hope the madness stops soon

And how has democracy gone in the west? How many primeministers have we had that we haven’t elected? Trump did a cracking job didn’t he? People hang onto democracy like it’s a golden f***ing ticket to shangri la, it’s not. In this day and age it’s a tool for corruption, power grabs and controlling the masses. Unfortunately. Like communism, in principle it’s good but can also be manipulated by greed.
Democracy has gone badly sometimes, but Trump is a good example: we got rid of him in an election.

It ain't perfect, but regardless of the system I think it's better that the power structure be in some way to the people - what political theorists term "the consent of the governed."

Nah, they need a democracy.

The ironic thing is that's the exactly the same thing Russia is doing now with Ukraine bar they've decided to take action but the opposite way.

It's not upto us to dictate what political system countries should have. It's why the war is happening partially in the first place.

It’s not about being better….it’s about what suits the culture. For a long time Russians have been happy being Russian under a dictator, yes, there’s things they’d like to change….exactly the same way we’d like to change cheers in things within our democracy. No system is perfect or better than another. Once we accept that and stop trying to enforce our way of life on others then we may get peace.

And the same thing happens with dictators, they go eventually

Have you thought that’s perhaps because nothing of substance has yet come out from those talks?

I’m sat watching Sky News, flicking between that and BBC news and neither are reporting anything from those talks as of yet.

I find it funny how you’ve appointed yourself as chief arbitrator of the thread and of what is or isn’t worthy of being posted.

This thread is 654 pages long man, there’s alsorts of stuff on it. Humour mixed with seriousness by way of posts, tweets, videos, all sorts of stuff. One thing is for sure though, it is all (as far as I’ve seen) relevant to the ongoing conflict.
