yes apparently the Russians had built up a 600bn$ war chest in the event of sanctions.

But he didn't bargain on the nuclear button (.pun intended ) of CB reserves freeze

most if it now frozen

Unable to trade due to SWIFT

- Unable to liquidate it's assets due to freeze

Buggered

I really don’t understand a lot of this so can you explain

how Do you freeze assets in Russia? London Paris etc ok but assets in Moscow?

isnt SWIFT an international trading device, is it necessary for them to trade within Soviet Union

Yeah I think you’re right, and I’m surprised that they would allow us to broadcast without restrictions over there anyway.

However, the bit that every anti-bbc thread brushes over is that the beeb does carry some gravitas to many none uk tax payers…
Our nuclear subs used to check if the WS was broadcasting and if was down they can assume London has been hit and can take independent action to fire their nukes.

Expect the price of gold to drop as that's what they'll have to flog off.

I’m in a true dilemma about the Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine.
In many of the pictures we have seen of them, they just look like bairns and I can’t help wondering if they had any clue as to what they were being pushed into, and lots have died.
If they didn’t know they are just as much victims of Putin.
Equally if they knew I wouldn’t want to defend them, hence the dilemma

I was 10 in 1962 & lived through and remember very well the Cuban Missile Crisis. There was no Hot Line between Washington & Moscow those days and for a week everyone both young and old was just waiting for the air raid warning to go. For us kids it was a bit of an unknown but for our parents who had lived through a war and had been under attack the prospect was very real. As kids we could see it in their eyes the unthinkable had happened to them. This is nothing like that.

Putin has suffered a military humiliation he is surrounded by NATO countries who because of him are already on alert. He must be thinking "Shit - what happens if they think that the Russia is so militarily inept it would be worth giving it a go right now and they start heading for Moscow ?"

Under such circumstances he has no alterative other than to say "Remember we have nucler weapons" because from the point of view of a conventional confrontation with NATO he has just demonstrated that Russia hasn't the ablility to put up much of a fight despite all of its hardware. He's issuing the threat because he knows Russia is vulnerable. The Russian Military will be furious with him and of course he will try to blame them.

I should think that his days as Russian president are now numbered.
I was 7 and I remember having nightmares about it. And I remember Russian tanks rolling into Czechoslovakia in 1968 which was scarier because I was old enough to understand the consequences.

Jesus christ, are these those thermobaric rockets that have been seen making their way into Ukraine?
