You never fail to have a sneering pop at forums or particular threads or the members on here.

If you're so dismissive of the place it begs the question why do you even log on?
I was largely agreeing with a poster on some of the content of this thread.

Would I be right in thinking Putin gambled on the invasion being all done and dusted by yesterday, underestimated Ukranian defiance as well as overestimated Russian military cohesion, and is now panicking that the one way to hurt him, by making a rich man poor, will happen tomorrow?

He shouldn't have done. He was in charge when Russia invaded Chechnya and it went horribly for them. You'd imagine he learnt some lessons from that.

a quick google shows the mpg of a ww2 Sherman is .7mpg and an modern M1A2 is .5mpg

(i assume all modern MBT's will have similar mpg)

the Russians were expecting to roflstomp Ukraine, they appear unprepared for a sustained conflict and/or Ukrainian interference on the supply lines

a t-90 should have a range of 500km assuming ideal conditions, they should'nt be running out of fuel on a drive from Belarus to Kyiv even if going off-road, involved in fighting, etc

Reading earlier on that a lot of the Russian tanks are ditching their diesel as they don't want to go to Kyiv and fight.

It's important that the EU / NATO gives him a clearly marked off ramp -

otherwise this is heading towards a Grozny type massacre or much worse

The Russians now will be under no illusions what will follow if they pull a stunt like tjus again in Europe
Unfortunately, I think you’re probably not far from the truth of the matter. The only alternative I see is the Russians themselves turn Against Putin.

Incidents like this are why the ending of Apartheid and the Troubles were so incredible and why the likes of Ghandi and MLK were so visionary.

They understood it has to be an act of compromise and mercy towards the aggressor as well. Which goes against every fibre in most peoples bodies.

But history has shown that humiliating or punitive peace terms never lead to sustainable peace.

No need to shit yourself. I used to live in Rugby before the Cold War ended and nearby was Rugby Radio Station with around 30 high masts that communicated with our nuclear submarines. It was accepted that Rugby would be a first strike target but people were philosophic about it saying it was probably the best way to go if a nuclear war began. We did have a couple of nuclear alerts but people still got on with their lives. Didn't stop me dropping loads of acid.
Dumkoff it was iodine that was supposed to save you from radiation not acid. Didn't you read your Protect and Survive manual?

Everyone had to agree before the SWIFT could be done, believe Japan had a say aswell. It's either an everyone or no-one thing, the UK wanted it done days ago, Germany were the ones dragging it back. No doubt because a large chunk of their gas coming from Russia.
USA still buying fuel from Russia

It's his way of trying to suggest Russia may soon be under nuclear attack. Its the countermeasure to if someone fired a nuke at you.

It's scary in the sense that it's the first time a super power has publicly dismissed arming some form of nuclear capability in a hot war since the fall of the Soviet Union.

But reading though the lines it's saying to Russians "they're trying to nuke us so we better get ready" ie trying to create a narrative of everyone being against them.

It's very different to arming nukes to fire in anger
It's all Putin Theatre

.....The Putin & Junta show

in The UK nukes may already have been put on high Alert in a meeting behind closed doors ....

In Russia they wheel in these old generals in front of the tv cameras for effect

No-one in the western military will be impressed by that .

Moscow has the nukes of at least 4 countries pointed directly at it .

... If he pressed the button he's be dead within the hour

I’m in Coventry and never knew that array was so strategically important. Probably a good job, as a child I was obsessed with “ When the Wind Blows” and had recurring nuclear apocalypse dreams. There’s quite a network of bunkers in Coventry and Warwickshire, three disused within a few miles of Cov.
