Kyiv was always the goal. From the very beginning, the main thrust was south from Belarus while they tried to take over an airfield near Kiev and land troops there. Why fight for every inch of the whole place when you can just try to capture the nerve center?Kyiv is encircled according to Klitschko and civilian evacuation is impossible.
Makes you wonder if Putin has been using distraction tactics elsewhere in Ukraine.
You can imagine what the Russia-Ukraine talks will be like - capitulate to our demands or Kyiv has had it.

The borders with Europe are in the west. Russia’s border is on the east.
Leave that for another day and another threadSlightly off-topic, but hopefully, if things calm down, maybe a good time to push egos aside and have talks about re-entering the EU.
I think this has proven that unity is essential, and a lot of pros/cons were about trivial matters.

In most wars reaching a city is just the start. Invading a city against even competent armed defence is pretty much the hardest thing to do in warfare, stillKyiv is encircled according to Klitschko and civilian evacuation is impossible.

Has it occurred to you that it happens so often because:Almost every thread on the politics forum ruined by this cliquey shite . This is probably the most important thread I’ve seen on here and it’s starting again by the usual people . Can we not just stick to what is important instead of getting pathetic digs in about Brexit , our own Government , racism , the conservatives etc etc . It really is tedious and derails the thread .
Sorry but that's just not true. He still hasnt deployed a fraction of what he has at his disposal. There's certainly enough to say he's bitten off a bigger chunk than he can chew, but he certainly has plenty to negotiate with.Putin is completely backed into a corner now, it’s checkmate.
There’s few options left for him.

We’ll definitely be providing intelligence.

The expectation would have been they would just yield. He'll be convinced in his own head they see him as liberator and not aggressor.I think the reasoning for that was the desire to instill a puppet government. Probably thinking the overwhelming odds would see minimal resistance.
