That's going to happen anyway isn't it? They'll be on the receiving end of sanctions for quite a while given they're a punitive measure for breaking international law.I think they may be actively considering what happens if they "go all out" and capture Kiev - and may be asking themselves if they honestly have the resources in-theater to do it given how badly they've fared thus far.
They thought they had a clearly winning hand. The fact that they're even considering peace talks 3 days in shows that they have a rather different understanding of their hand than originally.
At this point, any Russian "victory" is Pyrrhic. They can't "win" without crippling their own nation.
