They thought they had a clearly winning hand. The fact that they're even considering peace talks 3 days in shows that they have a rather different understanding of their hand than originally.

At this point, any Russian "victory" is Pyrrhic. They can't "win" without crippling their own nation.

That's going to happen anyway isn't it? They'll be on the receiving end of sanctions for quite a while given they're a punitive measure for breaking international law.

Aye, that's just one measure from a list of about 10. Total no fly zone over whole of EU to any Russian or Russian chartered or private jets. Aid to all countries taking refugees, freezing ru central back reserves, etc etc

Maybe so but we have a Home Secretary claiming misinformation while posting a link that literally proves she’s lying, a prime minister wasting military time for a photo shoot in front of a plane that turns back (and so doesn’t deliver whatever it was supposed to deliver) and MPs telling Ukrainians that they can’t claim refuge here but they can apply to come and pick some potatoes for the summer.

Meanwhile Slovakia has on its own offered any Ukrainians sanctuary, has provided fuel, food and military supplies while also offering money to those Ukrainians who are refugees.

We’re run by a government that has at every level been compromised by Russia and this is the inevitable result.

And let’s not forget - this is the same government that wants to ban the type of protests that are currently taking place elsewhere to stop the war.

First, we are shutting down the EU airspace for Russian-owned, Russian registered or Russian-controlled aircraft. They won’t be able to land in, take off or overfly the territory of the EU. Including the private jets of oligarchs.
