Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

I would like to agree but can’t.

As I say, I hope he’s said it because he wants to say his threat managed to get everyone round a table and he can play it off as a win

But as we’ve seen over the last few days, he doesn’t really make idle threats.
He’s backed into a huge corner. Right now nato will have every single bit of anti nuclear weapon defence on his country not to mention bombs pointed at Russia and soldiers ready to strike within hours. Air support and sea support in minutes.

Russian people will suffer the most if this goes nuclear he can’t defeat the world.

He has to “be seen” to have won imo. Doesn’t matter what the cost is. He just has to believe he’s won.

Agree in full. What we don’t know is what his game plan really is. If it’s as portrayed with the invasion and defeat of Ukraine then that’s going to be very difficult to achieve.
If there’s an ulterior motive then this is entirely possible.

It appears that ordered the nuclear forces to be put on alert at a meeting in the presence of Valery Gerasimov, whose resignation was announced on 26 February.
Just Googled and that’s the guy on the left as you look at the video.

Those in the command chain know that Russia is under no threat. If I was part of that command chain and I had to order someone to push the button I would refuse to do so even if I got shot for it. If NATO had just breached Moscow and I still didn't personally agree I would follow orders.

No way does someone let a 70yo dictator do this to save face when the country isn't under threat. Someone will alleviate him of his duties one way or another.
I am really hoping so

How come impressive politicians all seem to be from other countries?
Because the Conservative Party purged all theirs. Disagreement with Johnson's brexit saw them being kicked out of the party.

Because the Labour Party lost its way, failed to read the post-2008 howl of rage from people, which meant the jokey fringe candidate put on the ballot for 'the debate' was elected as leader.

At least Labour's coming back now. The Conservatives will take decades to recover, by which time they'll probably have ended democracy anyway.

Some of our lot will already be in Russia.

If something needs doing, they’ll do it.

Maybe wishful thinking. I think the same.

Negotiate peace with minimal concession to Russia. Wait a short period and announce Putin's retirement.

Russia has spent credit it doesn't have. They should make reasonable reparations to Ukraine and take some steps towards disarmament. Become responsible members of the international community.

Until they do so, sanctions should remain. The world can't be held to ransom by nuclear threat like this.
