Putin is rambling, what sanctions does he think will be imposed after he has illegally invaded the Ukraine and then let off nuclear weapons. It has nothing to do with sanctions, it's all about the fact he has shown himself up and the big bad Russian army.

He’s said we have weapons and we will use them, most of them are as dates as his tanks and non have been tested at a distance so no idea if they would even reach.

Also if he was going to attack he would have done it pretty quick, he will get it back as hard and one thing the Russian generals/

It’s probably the only way he can de-escalate but claim a win to his people

He can just say he threatened to obliterate everyone so they met and caved in to his demands.

I'd keep calm. Odds are it's posturing and Putin pushing buttons. If he was planning a sneaky attack why announce this 'high alert'? To scare people. Whatever destruction would come down on us would be returned to Russia.

Those in the command chain know that Russia is under no threat. If I was part of that command chain and I had to order someone to push the button I would refuse to do so even if I got shot for it. If NATO had just breached Moscow and I still didn't personally agree I would follow orders.

No way does someone let a 70yo dictator do this to save face when the country isn't under threat. Someone will alleviate him of his duties one way or another.
