Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Sorry but this is an existential crisis for Ukraine. I don’t think the women and children spending time in bunkers care if the people risking their lives are neo nazi racists. Plenty of time to condemn people’s politics once the conflict is over. Until then my full support is behind every defender of the country. Every one of them is a hero and I would hope us British Would act in the same way.
That’s not what I’m suggesting. I’m not saying that we call them ‘heroes but…’. They are heroes full stop for what they’re doing.

I’m just saying that if (I know that is an ‘if’ at the moment considering the apparent Russian propaganda mongering source) there are issues with the way minorities are being treated in evacuation efforts then they shouldn’t be ignored or dismissed because of the other superb and heroic deeds going on elsewhere in the country. People aren’t even entertaining it as a possibility when the reality is that it’s very likely with what we know of the attitudes of the nation.

Existential crisis or not for those on the ground, there still should be room for nuance from observers in my opinion.

I can’t believe how many people in here won’t believe that they are being racist towards black people. So many people wishing everyone all the best but at the same time ignoring the fact Africans are being discriminated against. Our country really does have a problem with racism which is something I didn’t believe myself.

Turn it in, we have a brave nation of people who have been unfairly attacked and your doing Russian propaganda.

There are no doubt many social injustices in Ukraine just like everywhere else but know one wants to hear it right now, read the room.

I did not realise this. However there are black woman and children who are being left also. I understand the men part. But woman and children no.
Women and children will be allowed to leave, nobody likes racism in the slightest and it's wrong. Currently though the Ukraine is being attacked horrifically by their fellow whitie next door, it's all wrong and needs to stop.

Well I mean personally, although I doubt I could effectively fight, I would be staying to see if I can help people. Food, shelter etc

Cant blame anyone for wanting to leave, and for sure there will be discrimination, but for some reason, it doesn't sit right.

Russian propaganda? Merely sharing Racism and highlighting that’s it’s bad. Just ignore it if you like that’s your choice. It’s still bad to see no matter what is happening. Would it be so difficult to just let everyone get to safety? No.

I think the time for nuance is down the line. However, people have the right to say what they want and I’m derailing the thread by engaging in the discussion. This thread has been invaluable for keeping up with events. So I’ll leave it at that.

Same here. At least I would like to believe I would anyway.

The African fella on the station said they had took the women and kids. If this is the worst thing that a few Ukrainians do in this war then I still give the brave wonderful people have my utter utter respect. It is now on my list of places I want to see before I die. The list isn’t very long but I hope to go to a peaceful and fully restored Ukraine.

Kiev is a beautiful city, been there a dozen times or so.
