Agree. Dont think the +40m Ukrainians will be looking for spare rooms. They need help to maintain their independence. The world needs to isolate Russia.

I doubt many on here do, a fortnight ago I thought SWIFT was a bird for instance, if the experts sY it’s necessary to restrict Russias use of it that’s fine by me ill just have to accept any problems that may mean for me down the line

What will get my goat though is if it becomes an excuse for anything and everything, “where are my goods” “sorry but it’s down to SWIFT” type conversations

I know man, I was just meaning in the interim whilst this shitfest is happening. Hopefully it will be over sooner than later and the folks can get home where they belong and would rather be.
 
I think, no matter the outcome of this, Russia loses. Most people hate to see unprovoked aggression and attacks on civilians. It seems all of Europe and much of the rest of the world are rooting for Ukraine and are hoping that their resistance forces Russia to negotiate. This war is being watched around the world on social media. Millions of people have seen a Russian tank deliberately crush an old lady’s car. They will be watching everything the Russian military do and I imagine there are very few armies that could stand that sort of scrutiny and come out looking good especially if they’re already seen as the aggressors fighting a plucky civilian population.
Russia has not had the overwhelming victory Putin told the world they would. They are meeting strong resistance and I’ve heard several senior army officers from the USA and U.K. say that Russia hasn’t made the progress they would have expected given the numbers and weapons. That must be reassuring for NATO members. The longer Ukraine continues to resist the weaker Putin looks. If the place he’s told the world isn’t really a country and is run by a weak corrupt government can defy his army for any length of time imagine what a group of determined, well armed countries acting together could do?
Ukraine isn’t an unknown foreign country to Russians. Many have family and friends there. It’s their next door neighbour and they won’t believe a lot of the lies Putin is telling partly because they know he tells lies and partly because they will be getting information from elsewhere including their family and friends in Ukraine. My worry is that Putin will decide to win at all costs and kill thousands of civilians to prove his invincibility but that could backfire massively with his own people who will see and share the results. There’s a difference between being strong and being a mass murderer. I think Putin has lost the propaganda war and, even if he does manage to crush Ukraine eventually which is still the likely outcome, the people of Ukraine will be the ones who have the admiration of people around the world.

You can do SWIFT payments on your phone if you have online access to your bank.
